Hi! I am a LPC licensed in the state of Virginia. I graduated from Liberty University with a Master's Degree in Counseling. I have been doing out-patient therapy for 12 years, but worked in the field of counseling for the last 24 years. The majority of the work I have done prior to out-patient therapy was in-home counseling. In-home counselors help kids and teens that are at risk of removal from home, school or community. I look forward to the opportunity to connect with you!
In our first session, I like to make sure to ask the right questions to make sure I understand why you are here, and what you would like to get out of therapy. I tend to ask a lot of questions on the first session. Any questions, comments or concerns you have can be addressed in this session as well.
I am able to listen for what you are trying to say in a compassionate and warm manner. If I miss the point of what you are saying, I am willing to listen until I understand. A non-judgmental approach will be used in sessions.
I love working with clients that desire to incorporate a Biblical Worldview into the counseling process. I also love working with clients desiring to incorporate Wilderness Therapy (being outdoors in sessions). I believe we are healthiest when we work on health from a holistic approach, addressing the Spiritual, physical and psychological.
Angie Coleman offers therapy covered by Kaiser Permanente - Medicaid in Virginia.
Christian Counseling can incorporate prayer, and other Spiritual disciplines in session. I am able to provide counseling from a Biblical Worldview.
CBT provides insight into how thoughts and feelings and behavior are impacted by our beliefs. Healthy belief systems are promoted in order to reduce unpleasant mental health symptoms such as anxiety or depression.
MI is used to help improve motivation through setting goals together while listening for what a client is desiring from therapy. I use this to help clients work toward desired mental health goals and desires.
Person centered therapy is utilized when a client knows a great deal of what their goals of therapy are. When this approach is desired, I listen as the client discovers how to reach desired goals for therapy.
I use psychodynamic therapy when a client is feeling stuck by something unresolved in the past. When this type of therapy is used, a client may realize that something in the past is hindering them, but don't necessarily know what it is or what to do about the unresolved matter.
