I'm Allie, an EMDR Certified therapist and mom of a toddler. Being a parent is hard enough without our own running dialogue and judgments telling us we're doing it wrong, or should be doing more somehow. Seemingly innocuous moments with family, your own kids, friends and spouse can leave you feeling anxious, riddled with self doubt, anger and guilt. A lot of my clients were raised to believe that their voice didn't matter, that they have to put on a smile or focus on everyone else's needs first. This leaves them depleted, irritable and on edge and wondering why parenthood is so hard. Moms who get triggered by their kids' tantrums, who get the urge to yell but hold it in, I see you. Moms who let the yell out and then are riddled with guilt and feel like the worst mother in the world, I see you.

Greetings! I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) and have worked with offenders, anger management clients, couples, teens and adults struggling with ADHD, anxiety and depression. Through a strengths based approach, my clients learn more about themselves thus improving self-confidence, communication, mood and overall outlook on life. I love serving my teen and couples clients via the Gallup strengths test. This test helps individuals understand where their energy is highest and what they value most. It's not about "strengths", but values. I believe one of the best things we can do for ourselves is take the time to truly understand ourselves as this helps us learn to communicate effectively, be productive, overcome procrastination and more. This is one tool of many I enjoy using to help my clients.

In addition to working at the WPB VA Medical Center, she worked in private practice in Jupiter, FL. She has published multiple articles on relationships, depression, improving well-being, thriving during and after a serious health issue and reducing acute stress response. She has a YouTube Channel, “Therapy with Karen Collins” where she posts peaceful places, guided meditations, provoking ideas to consider and a segment on managing acute stress response and improving overall well-being to teach how to prevent over-responding to stressors. I have 9 years of experience in community and office-based counseling, and am specifically using tele-therapy for my platform. I have been married for 42 years, raised three children, and have 8 grandchildren and hoping for more. I come from a family of eleven and my parents modeled to me what an amazing marriage should be. I went back to school later in life to become a counselor due to a career change. It has been the best unexpected gift for my life as I love the amazing people I get to meet.

Hi! In my work over the years, I have had the pleasure to see my clients succeed at life! I am compassionate, non-judgmental, and we will meet wherever you are and take you wherever you want to go. I look forward to working with you! Specializations Addiction and/or Substance Use Concerns, Anger Management, Anxiety, Couples Counseling, Depression, Family Therapy, Grief, Health Psychology, Parenting Issues, Relationship Issues, Sleep Health, Women's Health. In our sessions, you can see into my home, and it is as if you are right there with me. No filters, no staring at a wall behind me. You will be inside of my home office as if it were in person. At our sessions I take notes that I give to you at the end of our sessions, so you have have something tangible to take with you, as well as links to resources such as podcasts, books, take home exercises (never mandatory though!) to help you progress in between sessions to make our time together more valuable. I used to be in direct service many years ago and then moved into training EAP providers and offering trainings for Mental Health providers to maintain their licenses, but during the, "Great Hiatus," I saw that people needed help. So I came back to be in the trenches. You are in good hands! I am also a student of positive psychology, but I have the ability to empathize deeply and really be right there with you. Almost all of my clients have experienced breakthroughs and by the end of our time together are enjoying their lives again and feeling competent to problem solve and develop coping tools, and resiliency.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Ohio rather than a city like Columbus?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Ohio from Cincinnati to Cleveland! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Ohio.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Parenting?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Parenting, is filtering therapists in Ohio that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
