I have been a Social Worker for about 12 years, and have worked in multiple settings including in the community, Private Practice, and at two different Children's Hospitals. I have experience working with school age children, teenagers, and adults. I have experience working with individuals with anxiety and depression, as well as some trauma. I also have experience working with individuals working through the adjustment and struggles of parenting, and also have personal experience with this as I am a Mother of two! I identify as a Christian and can incorporate Christian Counseling if a Client chooses that.
In our first session I will be asking questions to better understand the reason you are seeking therapy. I will talk to you about your past experiences in therapy and things you have found helpful or that have not been helpful for you.
I believe that clients feel like I provide a safe and non judgmental space for them to express their themselves and be themselves.
The vast majority of my experience is working with individuals with anxiety, depression, or adjustment disorder. I particularly feel equipped to work with parents from my experience as a Medical Social Worker at two different hospitals, working with parents in a therapy setting, and being a parent myself. I also have worked with teenagers in both a therapy and volunteer setting.
I have used CBT as my most common approach for anxiety and depression with children, teens and adults. I use a combination of talk therapy and CBT excercises during sessions.
If an individual would like Christian counseling I can provide this. I am a Christian and have experience as a Christian Counselor.
I use CPT as a modality when working with individuals who have experienced trauma. Similar to CBT, we will unpack negative thoughts and beliefs the individual has had about the trauma and how to replace those with more realistic thoughts. Typically this is delivered in 12 sessions.
I use Solution Based therapy occasionally with Adjustment Disorder, and are looking for short term therapy focusing on a specific question.
I believe that one's trauma impacts their life in both knock and unknown ways. I use this perspective during my therapy sessions.
