Hello! I'm a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) based in Ohio. I received my Bachelors in Social Work from Liberty University and my Masters in Social Work from Indiana Wesleyan University and am in my sixth year of practice. I have been focusing on addiction, mental health, and dual diagnosis'. I also a well versed in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), trauma and grief therapy, as well as working with teens and the elderly.
I'm a fairly laid back therapist, I like to use humor and even sometimes sarcasm, so our first session will be laid back. We'll get to know one another, I'll ask you questions and you can ask me questions and I'll be as honest as I am allowed to be. I want to work on building a rapport with you as well as figuring out what it is that you want to dig into during your future sessions.
I've always wanted to be a social worker and a therapist so I can help others. My personal experience makes me empathetic to those who I see in my practice and that is an important trait in a provider. Also, I try to stay as up-to-date as possible on new treatment modalities as well as how to stay sharp in the ones that I am already trained in.
I cannot wait to meet you and help you begin to enjoy life or enjoy it even more! I enjoy helping others who may have lost their zest for life through no fault of their own, trauma, a loss, an addiction (yours or a loved ones), and help you regain that zest. I want to come alongside you and help you, I will not tell you the answers or what you should be doing, as you begin to feel better and are released from the things that hold you back from your best life!
I use empathy and compassion in my practice as it allows you and I to build a stable therapeutic rapport. I believe having a good rapport to begin with will help as we move on to other modalities such as CBT, DBT, or even EMDR.
I am a Christian who also just happens to do counseling. If you want to integrate faith into your sessions we can do that. I'm also open to learning about other faiths and how to integrate your faith into your sessions.
I am trained in using EMDR. It can be done during virtual sessions. EMDR is great for trauma, depression, anxiety, and is even being shown to be a way to manage chronic pain.
Most people will experience grief in their life. How one handles it varies from person to person and I can help with that. I have experienced several losses in my life. I have experience with sibling loss, loss by suicide, loss of a spouse, and extended family members.
