My name is Dan Cooper, and I have been a licensed counselor since 2008. My path to this work was shaped early on by a year of public service with AmeriCorps, followed by time working in a transitional living program for homeless youth. Watching counselors help young people create meaningful, lasting change in their lives inspired me to pursue this work myself — and that sense of purpose has stayed with me ever since. My approach to counseling is fundamentally collaborative. I believe that you are the expert on your own life and circumstances. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to offer an outside perspective, help you clarify what you want, and support you in taking accountable steps toward your own goals. Together, we work as a team.

I am a Linehan Board-Certified Dialectical Behavior Therapist (DBT), a credential that reflects my deep commitment to providing the highest standard of evidence-based care. My academic foundation began at St. Louis University (MO), where I earned both my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and my Master of Social Work. This rigorous training, combined with decades of practice, allows me to offer a space that is as clinically sound as it is compassionate and nonjudgmental. I’m Carrie Allen, MS, LPC, NCC, a Licensed Professional Counselor providing trauma-informed, ethically grounded psychotherapy. I offer virtual therapy to clients located in Alabama, Missouri, Texas, and Florida. My clinical work is grounded in evidence-based, trauma-informed care and guided by the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics, with an emphasis on cultural humility, client autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice. I work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences and am committed to fostering a therapeutic environment that prioritizes safety, dignity, and respect. I approach therapy with cultural humility and curiosity, recognizing that personal history, identity, environment, and broader social contexts can influence mental health, stress, and a sense of safety in daily life. Many clients seek support while navigating anxiety, trauma, chronic stress, burnout, identity-related concerns, or major life transitions. My role is not to direct clients toward particular beliefs or identities, but to collaborate in a way that honors each client’s values, boundaries, and goals. I view clients as the experts on their own experiences and aim to support increased insight, emotional regulation, and psychological flexibility. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in the same arguments, or wondering why things just don’t seem to get better no matter how hard you try—you’re not alone. Maybe your mind won’t slow down at night. Maybe conversations with your partner turn into the same frustrating cycle. Or maybe you’re carrying stress, anxiety, or emotional weight that no one else seems to fully understand. You might look like you’re holding it all together on the outside, but inside it feels exhausting. That’s where we start. In our work together, we focus on helping you make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface—so you can stop reacting in ways that leave you feeling drained or disconnected. You’ll learn how to manage overwhelming thoughts, understand your emotional patterns, and respond in ways that feel more steady, intentional, and aligned with who you want to be. For couples, this means identifying the patterns that keep you stuck—those moments where communication breaks down, frustration builds, and connection feels out of reach. Together, we’ll work to slow those moments down, rebuild understanding, and create more supportive, respectful ways of relating to each other. My approach is straightforward and supportive. I won’t just listen—I’ll help you build practical tools you can actually use in your day-to-day life. At the same time, I make sure you feel heard, understood, and not judged. Clients often tell me they leave sessions feeling clearer, more grounded, and better equipped to handle what’s in front of them. You don’t have to keep navigating this on your own. When you’re ready to feel more in control, more connected, and more like yourself again, I’m here to help. Schedule your first session, and let’s get started.

For over 15 years, I’ve had the honor of walking alongside people through some of the most challenging and meaningful moments of their lives. As a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri, my role is not to “fix” anyone — it’s to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore your experiences, reconnect with your inner strength, and create the changes that matter most to you. I believe that healing doesn’t always come from having the right answers — sometimes, it begins with the right questions, honest reflection, and the courage to show up just as you are.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Missouri rather than a city like Kansas City?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Missouri. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Missouri from Saint Louis to Springfield! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Missouri.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Coping Skills?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Coping Skills, is filtering therapists in Missouri that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
