New to Grow
I’m Dr. Brittany L. Collins, a licensed professional clinical counselor, certified mental performance consultant, and counselor educator with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. I work with adults who are navigating anxiety, stress, life transitions, identity concerns, and high-performance pressure. I have experience working in diverse settings, including private practice, college counseling, schools, outpatient, and residential treatment settings. My work is grounded in a humanistic, strengths-based, and culturally responsive approach. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and strengths-based. I strive to create a supportive and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to show up as their authentic selves. I believe therapy works best when it is tailored to your unique experiences, values, and goals. I integrate evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, and person-centered therapy. Together, we focus on building practical coping skills, increasing self-awareness, and creating meaningful, sustainable change. I have a special interest in working with high achievers, athletes, leaders, first responders, and individuals navigating identity-related stress or major life transitions. I also offer faith-based therapy for clients who wish to incorporate their spiritual beliefs into treatment. My goal is to help clients build self-awareness, develop practical coping tools, and move toward a more balanced and values-driven life. Whether you’re seeking support for personal growth, healing, or navigating a challenging season, I’m committed to walking alongside you with compassion, professionalism, and care.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin building a comfortable, supportive therapeutic relationship. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, and what you’re hoping to gain from this process. There’s no pressure to share everything at once—we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you. I’ll ask questions to better understand your background, experiences, and strengths, while also leaving space for you to ask questions and share what feels most important. Together, we’ll begin identifying goals for therapy and discuss how we can work toward them in a way that aligns with your values and needs. You can expect a collaborative, nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard, respected, and supported. Depending on your goals, we may also begin discussing practical tools or strategies you can start using between sessions. By the end of the session, you should have a clearer sense of what therapy with me will look like and feel confident about the next steps. My goal is for you to leave feeling more grounded, understood, and hopeful about the path forward.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
One of my greatest strengths is creating a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered to explore their thoughts and emotions. My lived experience as a former Division I collegiate athlete, coach, and military kid—born overseas and attending grade school in Japan—gives me a unique perspective on high-pressure environments, transitions, cultural identity, and international experiences. I integrate an ecological perspective, considering how family, community, culture, and broader systems impact mental health and well-being. I blend evidence-based approaches—like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and person-centered therapy—to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs, values, and goals. I work especially well with high achievers, athletes, leaders, first responders, and individuals navigating life changes or identity-related stress. I also incorporate multicultural and faith-based perspectives when relevant, ensuring therapy feels culturally responsive and personally meaningful. Clients often tell me that my ability to combine empathy, insight, and practical strategies helps them feel both understood and equipped to make meaningful, lasting change.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I am best positioned to support adolescents and adults who are motivated for growth and ready to better understand themselves, their patterns, and their next steps forward. Many of my clients experience anxiety, chronic stress, high-performance pressure, perfectionism, or feeling “stuck” during life transitions. I work especially well with high achievers, athletes, leaders, first responders, physicians, clinicians, practitioners, and professionals who are used to carrying a lot of responsibility but may struggle to slow down, set boundaries, or ask for support. I also support clients navigating identity concerns, cultural or race-based stress, grief, relationship challenges, and major life changes. My ideal clients are open to reflection, skill-building, and values-based growth. You may be seeking practical coping tools, emotional clarity, improved confidence, or a greater sense of balance and purpose. Some clients want to reduce anxiety or burnout, while others want to strengthen resilience, leadership skills, or alignment with what matters most to them. I also work with clients who want to integrate faith or spirituality into therapy in a respectful, client-led way. Whether your goal is healing, personal growth, or learning new ways to manage stress and emotions, I offer a supportive, collaborative space to help you move forward with intention and confidence.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have extensive experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as an evidence-based approach to help clients identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that impact mood, functioning, and performance. In my practice, I use CBT to support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, perfectionism, and life transitions. I collaboratively work with clients to increase awareness of the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, while teaching practical coping skills such as cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, emotional regulation, and problem-solving. CBT is integrated within a strengths-based, culturally responsive framework and is often combined with ACT, mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing to meet each client’s unique needs and goals.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients build psychological flexibility, manage difficult thoughts and emotions, and live in alignment with their values. I integrate ACT within a strengths-based, multicultural framework, using mindfulness, values clarification, and behavior change strategies to support clients experiencing anxiety, high-performance stress, life transitions, and identity-related concerns. I often blend ACT with CBT and Motivational Interviewing to provide a flexible, client-centered approach.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support clients in exploring ambivalence, strengthening intrinsic motivation, and increasing readiness for change. In my practice, MI is used to foster a collaborative, nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship that honors client autonomy and values. I integrate MI techniques such as open-ended questions, reflective listening, affirmations, and change talk to help clients clarify goals, build confidence, and take meaningful steps toward behavior change. MI is especially effective in my work with clients navigating transitions, anxiety, performance-related concerns, and lifestyle or behavioral changes, and is often blended with CBT, ACT, and mindfulness-based interventions to support sustainable growth.
Faith based therapy
I offer faith-based therapy as an integrative option for clients who wish to incorporate their spiritual or religious beliefs into the therapeutic process. My experience includes supporting clients in using faith, prayer, scripture, and spiritual reflection as sources of strength, meaning, and resilience when aligned with their personal values. In practice, faith-based interventions are always client-led and ethically integrated alongside evidence-based approaches such as CBT, ACT, and Motivational Interviewing. I support clients in exploring the intersection of faith, identity, mental health, and life challenges, while maintaining a culturally responsive, inclusive, and clinically grounded approach that honors both psychological well-being and spiritual beliefs.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use Person-Centered Therapy as a foundational approach in my practice, emphasizing empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard to create a safe and supportive therapeutic environment. I work collaboratively with clients to honor their lived experiences, strengths, and autonomy while fostering self-awareness and personal growth. In practice, I use person-centered principles to build strong therapeutic relationships that empower clients to explore thoughts and emotions at their own pace. This approach is integrated with evidence-based modalities such as CBT, ACT, and Motivational Interviewing, allowing for a flexible, culturally responsive, and client-driven treatment experience.
