Jennifer Brau
I am a licensed clinical social worker and substance abuse counselor providing therapy services to adults. I have been practicing therapy for 12 years but have been in the field of social work since 2000.
I believe that my background in social work and 12 years of work prior to becoming a therapist gives me a large pool of experiences to draw from when I am working with someone.
My professional experience includes work in child welfare, treatment foster care, adoption, parenting concerns, substance use, domestic violence, trauma, anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA, and life transitions.
First session
I really feel that the first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and the therapy process better. It is simply a conversation between the two of us to help you determine if I am a good fit for your therapy journey. I always encourage questions.
Strengths
I believe that my background in social work and 12 years of work prior to becoming a therapist gives me a large pool of experiences to draw from when I am working with someone. I also really enjoy learning about people and am genuinely curious about how you became the person I see sitting across from me.
Ideal clients
Every reason for beginning or continuing therapy is a good one but they often do not fit inclusively on a list. I am always open to having a discussion about those reasons and exploring how I can partner with you on your path or guide you in the direction that I believe will be the best fit for your needs. I am 12 years into my journey as a therapist and continue to feel honored every time someone invites me to walk with them on their path. Every person seeks out therapy for a different reason and I look forward to each opportunity to listen, to learn, and to grow together. Change is possible, it starts with turning one small "stone".
