I obtained my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adler University. I completed my masters program while working as an advocate for crime victims at a nonprofit organization I founded in 2008, Mothers On a Mission to Stop Violence (MOMSV). During my time at MOMSV, I authored three laws that passed unanimously in the State of Illinois strengthening and protecting crime victims' rights. After graduation, I became employed as a crisis and suicide prevention worker at DuPage County Health Department. I am currently employed as a full-time IRIS Counselor with Charlotte County Behavioral Center. My treatment approach is trauma-informed, collaborative and strength-based. Using neuroeducation, I teach clients the neurophysiological response to trauma and stress to help clients gain insight and awareness of their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I encourage clients to practice self-compassion, nonjudgement, and affirmations to empower themselves and build on their strengths of resilience and optimism.

I have 20 years of experience working with adults and adolescents from all walks of life. My expertise is in substance abuse, depression, relationships, family concerns, trauma and PTSD. I know sometimes people go through difficult times. They think something’s wrong with them because they have problems. Nothing could be further from the truth. Having difficulties is part of the human experience. Many people pretend they’re okay when they’re not. They keep all their pain and suffering to themselves. They’re afraid if they tell the truth, they’ll be abandoned and rejected. Therapy can open the door for you to stop pretending you’re “fine.” You can find the freedom to be you. Therapy can help you to come out of isolation and start living again. You'll start to feel better because you're showing the real you and you're connecting with someone. Your therapist can be a “loving witness to your pain.”

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor based in Chicago, IL (cis/het married woman.) I have worked in various areas of community mental health (13+ years) and as a private therapist (3 years) totaling 16 years in the field. I have experience with significant mental illness, trauma, recovery, and life transitions. I work with individuals (teens and adults) and couples. I am an accredited trauma therapist (APT) and I am trained in Narrative Therapy. Additionally, I am a "nerd" therapist. I want to hear about what you read, watch, play, etc. We can talk about cosplay and conventions and the like. I like to draw parallels between real life challenges and the stories that we read in books and see on TV and movies (you can expect me to mention the following: INSIDE OUT, ENCANTO, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, X-FILES, STAR WARS, STAR TREK, DOCTOR WHO, the MCU, etc, as well as the whole hero’s journey that we all take.) And I want to hear what stories keep you inspired and motivated. I want to know what you enjoy and feel passionate about. Our primary focus will be on what has brought you to therapy and what you want to work on but I know that there are many paths to these goals. As Tolkien said, “Not all who wander are lost.” So, we might wander a bit but we will wander together. At some point, during our virtual session, you will probably see one or both of my cats and your pets are welcome as well. Trans/queer friendly and welcoming. I am a LCPC, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, and Board-certified art therapist. I take a holistic approach in helping each client heal from trauma, face transitions and challenges, build self-esteem, and learn to love themselves and their lives. Through my work with trauma, I understand how childhood experiences can impact everything from our relationships as adults, our self-esteem, anxiety, parenting, etc. Frequently, it isn't until adulthood that we begin to look at our lives and discover how our childhood influences our choices, relationships, personality, emotions, addictions etc. By healing past trauma, we can find freedom, understanding and compassion for ourselves. In addition to EMDR, I use elements of polyvgal theory, mindfulness, IFS techniques, and body-based bottom up approaches based on the work of current neuroscience. I take a strength-based positive approach, helping clients discover their true and authentic selves.

I began training to be a psychotherapist 15 years ago after having worked in publishing for many years. Becoming a Social Worker and helping others has always been a kind of calling for me, but it took a little while for me to arrive at my goal. I hope that that part of my story helps to prove that it is never too late to change or to pursue goals. I continue to integrate the things that I have learned through formal education and through my own experiences of life so that I am best able to help others who are experiencing distress and difficulties with navigating life. We all need additional support from time-to-time, especially given the complicated, fast-changing world we live in. My goal as a psychotherapist is to be a source of support and assistance as you develop insight into the difficulties you face and as you begin to develop strategies for change. Through interactive-therapy sessions, I help you to understand and clarify life’s challenges and I support you as you begin to make the changes that are needed to make progress towards your goals. I help my clients to discover and explore a positive path in therapy that they can then continue to follow as they pursue their goals and their lives independently.

I'm Dr. Tara Chambers. I hold three licenses in the State of Illinois and have four degrees in Human Behavior/Clinical Counseling/and Psychology. I would describe myself as naturally solution focused but not always driven for brief therapy. I believe that therapy takes time but whether you have one day a month, one day a week, or only a handful of days a year, any amount of time working on improving your life and your view of yourself is progress. I'm comfortable working on hard topics and thankful for an opportunity to be part of your healing journey.

Hello, and thank you for considering me on your journey toward wellness! I’m Monika, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois. I earned my degree from National Louis University and hold certifications in Neuropsychotherapy and Mental Health Integrative Medicine. While I specialize in anxiety and OCD, I also work with clients dealing with stress, burnout, self-esteem challenges, and anger. Outside the therapy room, I’m an animal lover with three dogs, two cats, and a love for travel. I’m here to help you understand how your brain and body work—and hopefully share a few laughs along the way. Together, we’ll work on letting go of that self-blame that sneaks in when things don’t go as planned. Whether you’re dealing with worry, perfectionism, social anxiety, or procrastination, we’ll tackle it together, one step at a time. No one has all the answers, but I’m here to help you find yours.

I look at my clients as already complete human beings. You are more than your problems, and not as simple as a textbook. I treat each of my clients as a whole and unique person, not as a set of symptoms. I help my clients build on their strengths, to create a better sense of wellbeing. Whatever challenges you are facing, whatever difficulties you are having, I assure you that you are worth being heard. You are worth being treated with compassion, in a nonjudgmental setting. I am here to help you find healing and wholeness.

Hello, I’m a licensed clinical social worker based in Illinois, specializing in anxiety, depression, and stress management, and mindfulness. I also have experience working with veterans. I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate their mental health, manage anxiety, and reconnect with their sense of purpose. As a therapist, I believe in a systemic approach, understanding that we all operate in an intricate web of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and how they relate to others around us. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), existential, and humanistic modalities to help you explore these connections and build a stronger foundation for growth. I also offer EMDR to process trauma. I take a collaborative and compassionate approach in therapy, recognizing that every person has both strengths and vulnerabilities that shape their healing journey. My goal is to support you in tapping into your resilience, finding clarity, and fostering a life aligned with your values. If you're looking to explore your growth or tackle anxiety, I’m here to help you move forward, offering services through a secure tele-health platform.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Illinois rather than a city like Chicago?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Illinois from Rockford to Springfield! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Illinois.

Will my therapist take Oscar?

Yes! If you use Oscar you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Oscar you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
