I firmly believe that building rapport, respecting clients' worldviews, active listening, mutual understanding, and clear counselor-client expectations are the pillars of creating safe and inclusive counseling spaces, whether it's in-person or online. If significant differences exist between us, such as in culture or belief systems, I will work to understand the differences. My years of clinical experience and counseling specialties for the last 14-plus years have afforded me to serve urban, suburban, rural-suburban, and rural populations in Illinois and various Illinois counties. I believe in the acceptance of all persons who want to gain greater mental health.
It is important to me that you feel in control and comfortable throughout our sessions. Some clients achieve their goals in only a few counseling sessions, while others may require more time, I will work with you to achieve the best possible outcome. If significant differences exist between us, such as in culture or belief system, I will work to understand the differences. You can set out to find meaning in life, but something must change. Allow me to provide coping skills to help you, help yourself to be ok by choosing YOU on the road to wellness. In my counseling practice, I am deeply rooted in the humanistic approach, particularly the person-centered Perspective pioneered by psychologist Carl Rogers. The focus of this theory is to empower clients to discover their true potential by gaining awareness of how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors impact their well-being. By fostering a supportive and non-judgmental environment through traits like genuineness, empathy, and unconditional positive regard, I aim to assist clients in finding solutions to their challenges. I also have expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Trauma Informed Counseling, and Complex Trauma Informed care, which I integrate as needed. During our sessions, I will meet you where you are, actively listen to your experiences, and help you explore new perspectives. Together, we will set achievable goals, track progress, and develop practical skills for problem-solving and decision-making. Homework assignments may be provided to support your growth and recovery, and I will provide ongoing encouragement and support throughout our work together.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a type of mindfulness therapy that helps clients stay focused on the present moment and accept their thoughts and feelings without judgment. It promotes your energy into healing versus dwelling on the past. It allows you to move through difficult emotions.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) highlights negative thoughts that can lead to negative feelings and actions. I will help you uncover specific problems or daily life’s issues, and become aware of unproductive thought patterns and how they impact your life. We will identify patterns, reshaping patterns to change how you feel so you can learn new behaviors to put into daily practice.
