Reaching out for help can be difficult and the thought of seeing a therapist can seem intimidating. I believe that with the right therapist, you can express yourself freely without fear of judgment and receive the support you need and desire. No two people's journeys and life experiences are the same, so I take an individualized approach with my clients. I love helping clients build skills to manage their feelings, address their anxiety, and create sustainable routines. I specialize in adults maneuvering life challenges, exploring identity and understanding family dynamics. I am passionate about building strong communication skills and strengthening boundaries in relationships. I strive to provide a welcoming environment that will support your unique development of self-awareness, vulnerability, and growth. Together, we will identify your goals for treatment and work towards those in a collaborative process. I value feedback so I can ensure your goals and voice are at the heart of our work. I strive to develop trust between us so you feel comfortable opening up. I utilize values, humor, and compassion so we can build an authentic, therapeutic relationship to make changes. In sessions, I will often bring us back to the present moment to build awareness and identify old patterns of behaviors so we can create new habits.

I have a Doctorate in Psychology and am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I have been working as a therapist for over 16 years. I specialize in mood disorders, anxiety, trauma and LGBTQIA issues. I believe that therapy should be a safe place to talk about personal issues without any judgment. We all need someone to talk to and therapy provides that space where you can be yourself. We all go through some things from time to time and should be able allowed to talk with someone who is willing to listen and provide us with the support that we need.

As you embark on your journey, therapy can provide a safe and supportive space to explore, understand and challenge life experiences that shape our identities and perceptions of the world. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with years of experience working in the heart of Chicago, providing therapy and other clinical services to individuals struggling with severe mental illness and addiction, I approach therapy from a holistic and multicultural perspective. As a Mexican and Filipino American woman, I draw on my personal experiences to better understand how cultural factors influence our perceptions of ourselves and the world around us. My goal is to build a respectful and collaborative partnership with my clients to support them on their journey towards healing and self-discovery. I firmly believe in addressing presenting issues by understanding the whole person, rather than just focusing on the problem. Using a strengths-based approach, along with evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, mindfulness, and psychodynamic approaches, I work with my clients to identify thought patterns, regulate emotions, and build self-awareness to foster healing and self-compassion. I earned my Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Mental Health from the Jane Addams College of Social Work, and have worked in a variety of settings, including residential care for addiction, outpatient addiction treatment facilities, and community mental health care. My diverse experiences and training have enabled me to build a creative work space that centers the person as a whole, providing a healing space where individuals can feel heard, honored, and understood.

Hi. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). Perspective clients need to know I genuinely care about the people I work with, and have a passion for joining people on their journey to a new self. The fact that you are searching for a therapist shows you would like something to change. This is very brave. We often lose perspective about situations and how we deal with them. This can be a result of things we have buried from our past, or relationships that did not support us in the way we need. I will give you a safe and supportive place to look at your unwelcome patterns and find a way to make your journey more fulfilling. My counseling focus is on adolescents and adults. My philosophy is client-centered, Mindfulness based, trauma informed, and goal oriented. I have training and experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness. My areas of focus include trauma, attachment issues, difficulties with distress tolerance and emotional regulation, along with families dealing with Alzheimer's. Your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are what make you who you are. As we work together to understand these parts of you, we will find a way to alter those thoughts that no longer work for you and strengthen those that are helping you become who you wish to be.

Hi! My name is Jacqueline Lizarazo, and I go by Jackie. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in therapy for individuals, children, and couples, with a focus on grief, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and sexual abuse. Why Choose Me: I want you to read the following passages: On Abuse: “I lived in a glass house into which my mother could look at any time. In a glass house, however, you cannot conceal anything without giving yourself away, except by hiding it under the ground. And then you cannot see it yourself, either.” On Depression: “Trees aren’t supposed to display fruit; they’re supposed to produce it. As much as I wanted to see results, I knew that I had to wait. The tree had to become healthy and mature before it could produce the fruit, and that takes time.” If what you read resonates with you, this is the type of therapy I offer. I push, and sometimes might make you cry—not to harm, but for growth. I deeply care about my patients and only want the best for you. I am not judgmental; I am here to listen and provide feedback. I often ask myself the question: if I were sitting where you are, would I come back? And the answer is yes. I give homework, so don’t expect it to be easy unless we need it to be. I am flexible, and my schedule is pretty open to fit your needs. We’re going to have days where we just catch up and talk about what happened that week but be prepared to talk about your past. I believe together we can grow into the person you want to be.

My counseling style is pretty laid back. I have been described as supportive, thoughtful, and empathetic, with a pretty good sense of humor. I specialize in child, teen, and young adult therapy. I began my career in behavioral therapy, before pursuing my master's in social work. Academically I specialized in lifespan development and disability advocacy. I have had experience working in home, clinic, school, government, and hospital settings. I am also a certified Animal Assisted Therapist, and my Therapy Dog Trekk is available to accompany our sessions on request!

You’re the one people count on. You show up, check the boxes, keep things running—and most people have no idea how heavy it’s been to carry it all. Lately, the stress is harder to hide. You might find yourself lying awake at night replaying conversations, saying “yes” when you wish you’d said “no,” or feeling disconnected from the person you used to be. On the outside, you’re holding it together. On the inside, you’re exhausted, anxious, and wondering if life is supposed to feel this heavy.

Grounded. Compassionate. Solution-Focused. I strive to assist women in building resilience, self-compassion, and lasting emotional balance. As both a veteran and a therapist, I bring a unique blend of lived experience and clinical expertise to my work. I specialize in supporting women who are healing from the lasting impacts of trauma and working to overcome anxiety and depression—whether it shows up as constant worry, panic attacks, social anxiety, specific phobias, persistent sadness, loss of motivation, or feeling “stuck.” My approach is holistic and solution-focused, integrating mind, body, and spirit. Sessions may incorporate mindfulness, wellness-focused conversations, and strategies to help clients build clarity, calm, and resilience. Clinically, I draw from a diverse and evidence-based toolkit: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure Therapy to help clients identify, challenge, and reframe anxious thoughts while gradually facing their fears. Internal Family Systems (IFS) to foster deeper self-understanding and healing of wounded inner parts. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to build skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and effective coping. Mindfulness practices to cultivate presence, balance, and grounding in the here and now. All of this is guided by a solution-focused approach, ensuring that clients leave each session with meaningful insights and practical, actionable steps. Most importantly, I am committed to creating a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to show up exactly as they are. My goal is for every person I work with to leave feeling seen, supported, and empowered—equipped with the tools to move forward with confidence, resilience, and a renewed sense of self.

I hold a dual degree as a Registered Art Therapist and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I work with clients not only to verbally express themselves but also creatively. I believe in meeting each client where they are at, and using the most effective treatment modality in order to help you achieve your personal goals for treatment. Art therapy is a great therapeutic tool to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself. No previous experience in art is necessary. I do not interpret art but ask you questions to reflect on the images. I also work with clients using response art in treatment in order to achieve self-reflection and awareness. With 12 years of experience, I also provide talk therapy if you are not interested in art therapy. I specialize in helping people with life adjustments/transitions, work-life balance, and self-esteem/self-awareness work. If you are interested in creating a happier and healthier life for yourself I am available and accepting new clients. I look forward to meeting you and working with you! Please note that on the calendar to schedule with me there may be limited time and day availability or times you feel may not work for you. Upon scheduling, I am open to flexible scheduling with clients and we can adjust to other days or time frames after the initial scheduling occurs for future sessions.

I am a social worker with over 20 years of experience working with clients from infants (support to parents) to geriatrics. I believe that our thoughts are powerful to change our behavior. We often have been taught to "just change our behavior" and then we get down on ourselves when we can't. But if we work on changing our thoughts then we have much more success in changing our behavior. This can be very helpful for individuals with anxiety, depression, grief, personality challenges, trauma, couples, etc.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Illinois rather than a city like Chicago?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Illinois from Rockford to Springfield! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Illinois.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Self Esteem?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Self Esteem, is filtering therapists in Illinois that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
