I have experience working with adults, adolescents and children struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, low self-esteem and key life transitions. I provide a safe and accepting space where you can be open and honest with the difficulties you are experiencing in your life. Prior to returning to school for a counseling degree, I worked in the corporate and nonprofit sectors for many years as an editor and writer and I bring that unique perspective and experience to my work with clients. My multicultural background is also an asset in working with diverse populations. I utilize a strengths-based approach when working with clients while creating a safe and accepting space where you can be open and honest with the difficulties you are experiencing in your life. Because I view therapy as a collaborative process, I will be checking in with you throughout our time together to review your initial goals for therapy and to ensure that you continue to feel heard and understood in therapy. It takes courage to seek out counseling. If you are ready take that step, I am here to support, encourage and empower you. I look forward to working with you!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My counseling style is open, transparent and supportive. I take a holistic approach to emotional and psychological healing and well-being, as well as a sensitivity to diversity and multiculturalism. Clients will feel encouraged and motivated to use the tools and strategies we discuss in therapy in their everyday lives.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My biggest strengths are my compassion, empathy, openness to understanding the client's presenting issues, and creativity in helping clients to discover their own strengths and resiliencies.

My treatment methods

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

As someone from a bicultural background, I am very sensitive to providing treatment that is culturally sensitive, appropriate and effective.

Grief Therapy

I have attended numerous trainings in providing empathic and compassionate counseling and support to clients experiencing bereavement.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize CBT in my sessions with clients. I provide psychoeducation to clients about CBT early on in treatment to explain CBT and the connection between thoughts, emotions and behaviors.

Humanistic

I received training in client-centered therapy during my internship. I believe it is important to understand the client's experience of being in the world and to provide the core conditions that are necessary to establish trust and rapport with clients.

Narrative

As a writer and editor who changed careers to become a therapist, I believe strongly in the power of story and narrative in the counseling process. We all have stories/narratives that we bring to therapy. Sometimes we are ready to reexamine those stories and ask if they are our stories, our families' stories, or if they still hold true for us.
