In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Your first session is a space to slow down, be heard, and begin making sense of what brings you to therapy. We’ll review your reasons for seeking support, discuss relevant background information, and clarify what you hope to gain from therapy. I’ll ask thoughtful questions to better understand your experiences, stressors, relationships, and strengths. There is no pressure to share everything at once—therapy moves at your pace. Together, we’ll begin identifying initial goals and explore how therapy can best support you. I’ll also explain my approach, answer any questions you may have, and outline what ongoing sessions may look like. You can expect a supportive, respectful, and collaborative environment focused on helping you feel safe, understood, and empowered from the very first meeting.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
What sets my work apart is the combination of over 20 years of clinical experience and a practical, compassionate approach that meets clients where they are. As a licensed clinical social worker, I view each client within the full context of their life relationships, work, culture, values, and stressors—rather than focusing on symptoms alone. My approach is: Client-centered and collaborative — therapy is a partnership, not a one-size-fits-all process Strengths-based and solution-focused — building on what’s already working while addressing what’s not Insight-oriented with practical tools — helping clients understand patterns and apply strategies they can use in daily life Trauma-informed and culturally responsive ensuring safety, respect, and individualized care Clients often report feeling heard, grounded, and clearer after sessions, with increased confidence in setting boundaries, managing stress, and navigating relationships. My goal is not just symptom relief, but helping clients develop lasting skills that support long-term emotional health and resilience.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I work with adults and couples who are feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or stuck and are ready to make meaningful changes. Many clients are high-functioning individuals who carry significant responsibilities but struggle with stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, or life transitions. I’m especially well positioned to support clients who are experiencing: Anxiety, chronic stress, or emotional burnout Relationship or marital challenges, including communication and boundary issues Family of origin concerns and ongoing family conflict Grief, loss, and major life changes Caregiver fatigue and role imbalance Faith-informed concerns, for clients who wish to integrate Christian values into therapy Clients who work well with me are open to self-reflection, value practical tools, and want a supportive yet structured approach to therapy. My goal is to help clients build clarity, resilience, and healthier relationships while feeling heard, respected, and empowered.
Psychoanalytic
Psychoanalytic therapy is a clinically grounded approach that focuses on understanding how unconscious processes, early relationships, and past experiences influence current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In practice, treatment emphasizes self-reflection, insight, and the exploration of patterns, defenses, and relational dynamics that may be occurring both in and outside of the therapeutic relationship. The goal is to increase self-awareness and emotional understanding, supporting long-term psychological growth and meaningful change.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In my practice, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns and develop practical, evidence-based strategies to support healthier coping and decision-making. CBT is collaborative and goal-oriented, empowering clients with tools they can use both in and outside of sessions to create meaningful, lasting change.
Couples Counseling
In my couples counseling work, I support partners in strengthening communication, rebuilding trust, and understanding the patterns that keep them stuck in conflict or distance. Sessions focus on creating a safe, respectful space where both voices are heard while developing practical tools for healthier connection, boundaries, and shared decision-making. The goal is to help couples move toward greater emotional intimacy, mutual respect, and intentional partnership.
Christian Counseling
Christian counseling, from a clinical perspective, is an integrative approach that combines evidence-based therapeutic models with a client’s Christian faith and values. Clinical assessment, treatment planning, and interventions remain grounded in professional standards of care, ethical guidelines, and psychological research, while spiritual beliefs are incorporated when clinically appropriate and client-driven. Faith elements such as Scripture and spiritual reflection may be used as therapeutic resources to support meaning-making, coping, values clarification, and resilience, without replacing clinical judgment or mental health treatment.
Trauma Informed Care
Trauma-informed care is a clinical framework that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and emphasizes safety, trust, choice, collaboration, and empowerment in the therapeutic process. From a clinical standpoint, treatment focuses on understanding how past trauma influences current emotional, cognitive, and behavioral functioning, while avoiding re-traumatization. Interventions are paced intentionally, strengths-based, and tailored to support regulation, resilience, and healing within a consistent, respectful therapeutic relationship.
