Currently I am only accepting new clients who are trans. I am a trans and queer Licensed Clinical Social Worker and artist with 15 years of experience in community mental health. My approach is that all people deserve to have the opportunity to experience a safe, kind, and welcoming space to explore their mental health, and that as a therapist, it is my job to nurture that. I am driven to create therapeutic opportunities for people who want and need them within the LGBTQ2IA+ community. I am open to working with clients that find themselves in need of an understanding, compassionate, and community-oriented therapist who will help to guide them through healing work. My areas of focus are: LGBTQ2IA+ and TGNC youth and emerging adults, major life transitions, trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, ADHD, gender dysphoria, and sexual identity exploration. I completed my Master of Social Work (MSW) and Master of Arts in Gender Studies (MA) degrees concurrently at Loyola University Chicago. Before entering graduate school, I worked in multiple positions focused on reproductive justice, body autonomy, and community care. My life and professional experiences have led me to provide therapy with a focus on community care through an anti oppressive lense. I understand that helping one person can have a positive impact on the greater community surrounding them. I believe that treatment approaches should fit the individual's needs and thus I utilize many modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness, somatics, and narrative therapy. My approaches of curiosity and kindness create a welcoming space to engage in therapy. Choosing to work with a therapist is a powerful way to help yourself and we all deserve a chance to have focused time to explore, learn, and grow through challenges.

Feeling stuck, lonely, lost or sad? If you’re looking for someone to help you during this difficult time, you’ve come to the right place. It takes a lot of strength to seek help. I have experience working with adolescents and adults from all different backgrounds including Navy and Marine reservists and active duty. Although I’m not military, I really take pride in helping those who serve our country.I also have a passion for working with women struggling with postpartum issues as well. Having a new child can be both challenging and exhausting, yet also rewarding. I want to be here to help with these difficult times…I’ve been there. As a mom of two, I can relate to the difficulties of motherhood. Given my background and experience, I really enjoy working with a variety of individuals and hearing everyone’s story. We all struggle, but it’s important to find someone who is willing to listen and provide support, without feeling like you’re being judged. Let me be that person for you. When we’re able to see things from a different perspective, it helps us find a better solution to the problem. I’m not someone who is going to tell you what to do, but someone who will help you problem solve and find what works best for you. I want to work with you and help you become a better and happier you!

I hold a Clinical Psychologist license to practice in Illinois. I completed my doctorate studies at Adler University. My professional experience in treatment spans over 25 years. I believe a person holds the ability to transform their life for the better. I find satisfaction in helping them advance on their path. The following examples show my methods for treating anxiety and depression. The evidence-based treatment method I use for anxiety focuses on individualized symptom-specific approaches that match the client’s needs and personal preferences. The combination of repetitive and irrational thoughts about perceived danger, uncertainty or failure creates distressing mental states which may manifest as negative thought, such as: "I am not good enough" or "something bad will happen" or "I will be fired if I make a mistake." I assist my clients to detect and fight their negative beliefs and thoughts. I guide clients to manage their anxiety symptoms with mindfulness breathing techniques and progressive muscle relaxation methods. With assigned homework including mindfulness exercises, I guide the client to maintain their progress and self-regulation between sessions. My depression treatment approach matches each client's symptoms, their life history, and their social environment. Depression exists on a spectrum from temporary sadness to persistent and severe Major Depressive Disorder. The maintenance of depression relies on negative thoughts such as “I am worthless” or “Nothing will ever get better.” Our focus will be to identify and modify. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I help clients view their depressive thoughts in a non-judgmental manner to reduce their rumination and emotional distress. By teaching problem solving skills and the practice of mindfulness helps the individual become more aware of their physical tension. Assigning homework guides the individual to improve sleep hygiene, self-care, and build effective coping strategies.

Hi! I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Indiana. I received my Masters from Aurora University and I have been practicing for 5 years. I am a warm, empathetic therapist who helps adults become the best versions of themselves through Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Combining my lived and professional experience, I specialize in working with LGBTQ adults to address needs specific to our community, especially those of transgender experience. Further, I myself am an individual who has detransitioned and I extend services to those who have as well. I understand what it's like to go through transition and go back, and I want to ensure my clients get thorough care, transitioning or detransitioning. Of course, I work with people who are inside and outside the LGBTQ community, I'm an advocate for you. I also work with personality disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, and so much more. Regardless of what brings you to therapy, I have a wide range of resources available to all my clients for extra support. My biggest priority in therapy is honesty, as well as giving you a space you feel comfortable in so you can open up at your pace. I want to build a strong, lasting alliance between us so we can help you become the best version of yourself. I know that together, we are going to do great things. A little about me, I have a sphynx cat named Cupid and a black cat named Tofu. Behind me sits my spider, Marrow, who burrows and builds tunnels more than she spins webs. I also enjoy playing DND, I've been drawing since I was in kindergarten, and I play lots of video games, particularly fantasy RPGs.

My name is Christine Miller, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in perinatal mental health and holistic healing. I am also a Reiki practitioner, which allows me to blend therapeutic techniques with energy work to support healing on every level—mind, body, and spirit. I am passionate about helping individuals & families navigate life’s challenges by turning pain into power and wounds into wisdom. Whether you’re adjusting to new parenthood, navigating the complexities of co-parenting, or seeking balance during a life transition, I would be honored to support you on your healing journey. I understand the unique challenges of motherhood, partnership, and balancing it all because I live it, too. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can express yourself freely, heal from life’s hard moments, and reconnect with your inner strength. Through a combination of therapeutic techniques, coaching skills, and Reiki, I help clients explore the root of their struggles and create meaningful, lasting changes. I believe that true healing happens when we take a holistic approach. This means looking at all aspects of your life—mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual—and working together to restore balance. By embracing this process, you can achieve sustainable growth and rediscover joy and fulfillment in your life. Healing can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. I would be honored to partner with you as we work to create the peace, balance, and healing you deserve. Let’s take the first step together.

Hello! I gained an interest in Psychology while working in a nursing home for 10 years with those with dementia or end of life care and met so many wonderful people and knew I wanted to learn and meet more people to try and help guide people as much as I could. I majored in Psychology and minored in Women Studies & Multi-cultural studies at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN attaining my BA. I later worked for a while and while working full-time, I went to grad school to attain my Graduate Degree Summa Cumme Laude in December of 2010 at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago majoring in Rehabilitation Counseling which had a primary major emphasis in Psychology and there were also emphases in physical disabilities and vocational counseling respectively. I have 14 years in the field post getting my licensure working with a diverse population. I'm a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) or a Licensed Therapist in other words in the state of Illinois and have been since January of 2012. I have experience as a Qualified Mental Health Professional since 2003 working with adults, adolescents, & children as that is when I started my professional career in Outreach Community Mental Health and have have been at the Director level supervising other Clinicians getting their licenses and those already with their licenses providing counseling and case management services throughout the Chicagoland area.

You’re the one people count on. You show up, check the boxes, keep things running—and most people have no idea how heavy it’s been to carry it all. Lately, the stress is harder to hide. You might find yourself lying awake at night replaying conversations, saying “yes” when you wish you’d said “no,” or feeling disconnected from the person you used to be. On the outside, you’re holding it together. On the inside, you’re exhausted, anxious, and wondering if life is supposed to feel this heavy.

As you embark on your journey, therapy can provide a safe and supportive space to explore, understand and challenge life experiences that shape our identities and perceptions of the world. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with years of experience working in the heart of Chicago, providing therapy and other clinical services to individuals struggling with severe mental illness and addiction, I approach therapy from a holistic and multicultural perspective. As a Mexican and Filipino American woman, I draw on my personal experiences to better understand how cultural factors influence our perceptions of ourselves and the world around us. My goal is to build a respectful and collaborative partnership with my clients to support them on their journey towards healing and self-discovery. I firmly believe in addressing presenting issues by understanding the whole person, rather than just focusing on the problem. Using a strengths-based approach, along with evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, mindfulness, and psychodynamic approaches, I work with my clients to identify thought patterns, regulate emotions, and build self-awareness to foster healing and self-compassion. I earned my Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Mental Health from the Jane Addams College of Social Work, and have worked in a variety of settings, including residential care for addiction, outpatient addiction treatment facilities, and community mental health care. My diverse experiences and training have enabled me to build a creative work space that centers the person as a whole, providing a healing space where individuals can feel heard, honored, and understood.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I received my Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology. I began my career working with severe trauma and persistent mental illness. This gave her a unique perspective on life and how quickly one can loose the life as we know it...and how wellness can suddenly elude us. To grieve loss and restore wellness, I believes a strong therapeutic relationship. I use a client centered approach in establishing rapport. Having worked in the most challenging neighborhoods of the inner city, I have seen the best and worst of human nature. What impressed me the most, is the inner strength I saw in people, under the most difficult of circumstances. It is this impression, this knowledge, that guides me to focus on an individuals’ capacity to overcome hardship, pain and despair. I use a holistic approach to therapy as I do not believe any one approach works for all, as each and every person is unique and different. I believe with compassion, care and empathy, one can be empowered to make the necessary changes to become more happy, fulfilled and to grow.

I began training to be a psychotherapist 15 years ago after having worked in publishing for many years. Becoming a Social Worker and helping others has always been a kind of calling for me, but it took a little while for me to arrive at my goal. I hope that that part of my story helps to prove that it is never too late to change or to pursue goals. I continue to integrate the things that I have learned through formal education and through my own experiences of life so that I am best able to help others who are experiencing distress and difficulties with navigating life. We all need additional support from time-to-time, especially given the complicated, fast-changing world we live in. My goal as a psychotherapist is to be a source of support and assistance as you develop insight into the difficulties you face and as you begin to develop strategies for change. Through interactive-therapy sessions, I help you to understand and clarify life’s challenges and I support you as you begin to make the changes that are needed to make progress towards your goals. I help my clients to discover and explore a positive path in therapy that they can then continue to follow as they pursue their goals and their lives independently.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the constant demands of work, parenting, or life in general? You’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. I work with adults who are struggling to manage stress, burnout, anxiety, and depression, especially those trying to juggle the pressures of professional and personal responsibilities. I have a special focus on supporting educators and school professionals who often give so much to others that their own well-being takes a back seat. Together, we’ll create a supportive, collaborative space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful change. My approach is warm, practical, and tailored to help you feel better and find a sense of balance again. Before transitioning into private practice, I spent 34 years working in public schools, helping students, families, and staff navigate life’s challenges. That experience gave me a deep understanding of how stress shows up across all areas of life—and how important it is to have a safe place to process, heal, and grow.

Hi! My name is Jacqueline Lizarazo, and I go by Jackie. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in therapy for individuals, children, and couples, with a focus on grief, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and sexual abuse. Why Choose Me: I want you to read the following passages: On Abuse: “I lived in a glass house into which my mother could look at any time. In a glass house, however, you cannot conceal anything without giving yourself away, except by hiding it under the ground. And then you cannot see it yourself, either.” On Depression: “Trees aren’t supposed to display fruit; they’re supposed to produce it. As much as I wanted to see results, I knew that I had to wait. The tree had to become healthy and mature before it could produce the fruit, and that takes time.” If what you read resonates with you, this is the type of therapy I offer. I push, and sometimes might make you cry—not to harm, but for growth. I deeply care about my patients and only want the best for you. I am not judgmental; I am here to listen and provide feedback. I often ask myself the question: if I were sitting where you are, would I come back? And the answer is yes. I give homework, so don’t expect it to be easy unless we need it to be. I am flexible, and my schedule is pretty open to fit your needs. We’re going to have days where we just catch up and talk about what happened that week but be prepared to talk about your past. I believe together we can grow into the person you want to be.

Choosing Grow Therapy for Anxiety Treatment in Illinois

Verified, high-quality therapists

Every Grow Therapy anxiety therapist is licensed, verified, and committed to providing the best care based on your needs. You can trust that you’re connecting with qualified professionals who specialize in helping people showing signs of anxiety and have the expertise to guide you toward healing.

Personalized matching

As an online therapy platform, Grow Therapy allows you to filter therapists by therapeutic approach, specialties, availability, and even personal factors like gender, age, and cultural background. This ensures you find someone who truly understands your experiences and can provide the most effective treatment based on your needs.

Flexible availability

We know that when you’re ready for therapy, you shouldn’t have to wait. Our therapists often maintain flexible scheduling with morning, afternoon, and weekend availability, typically allowing you to book your first session within two days.

Insurance-friendly options

Many of our Illinois anxiety therapists accept major insurance plans, and you could pay as little as $0 with coverage, with most paying $21/session on average with their insurance. We help you navigate insurance benefits so you can focus on what matters most – your mental health. Want to know what therapy might cost with your insurance? Check out our therapy cost estimate calculator.

Understanding anxiety treatment options in Illinois

Anxiety treatment has evolved significantly over the years, and today there are numerous evidence-based approaches that can effectively help you manage and overcome anxiety symptoms. The good news is that you have options – from traditional talk therapy methods to newer, innovative techniques, there’s likely a treatment approach that will resonate with your learning style and personal preferences. Below are some of the most common and effective therapeutic approaches our Illinois therapists use to help clients find relief from anxiety.

Examples of evidence-based approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): A commonly used method for anxiety treatment, CBT helps you identify and challenge negative thought patterns while developing practical coping strategies. Many of our Illinois therapists specialize in CBT techniques specifically adapted for anxiety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Particularly effective for anxiety with emotional regulation challenges, DBT combines cognitive behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to help you manage intense emotions and reduce anxiety symptoms.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy: Incorporating meditation and awareness of the present moment, this approach helps you develop a healthier relationship with anxious thoughts and feelings rather than fighting against them.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT focuses on accepting anxiety while committing to actions aligned with your values, helping you live a fulfilling life despite anxious feelings.

Specialized anxiety treatment areas

Our Illinois therapists have expertise in treating various anxiety-related issues, including:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder: Persistent, excessive worry about everyday situations
  • Social anxiety: Fear of social situations and being judged by others
  • Panic disorder: Recurring panic attacks and fear of future episodes
  • Specific phobias: Intense fear of particular objects, situations, or activities

How to find the right anxiety therapist in Illinois

What to look for in an anxiety therapist

Credentials and experience: Look for licensed therapists (e.g. LMFT, LICSW/LCSW, LPCC, or psychologists) with specific training in anxiety. When searching the Grow Therapy online therapy platform, you will see a clear display of each therapist’s credentials, years of experience, and specialty areas.

Therapeutic approach alignment: Consider which therapeutic approaches resonate with you. Some people prefer structured, skills-based approaches like CBT, while others may benefit from more exploratory or mindfulness-based methods.

To find a therapist by treatment method, you can use the “Treatment Methods” filter above. You may also double check a therapist’s treatment methods by viewing the “My treatment method” section on their profile page. To learn more about the types of therapy available, check out our guide on the different types of therapy.

Availability and scheduling: Choose a therapist whose schedule aligns with yours. Many of our Illinois providers offer both virtual and in-person sessions, providing flexibility for your busy lifestyle.

Insurance acceptance: Verify that your preferred therapist accepts your insurance plan. We make this easy by showing accepted insurances for each therapist.

Overcoming common barriers to anxiety treatment

Cost concerns: Many people worry about the cost of therapy, but with insurance coverage and a large network of in-person and online therapists on Grow Therapy who accept various plans, treatment can be more affordable than you think. We’re here to help you understand your benefits and find cost-effective options.

Time constraints: Anxiety often makes daily tasks feel overwhelming, and finding time for therapy can seem impossible. Our flexible scheduling options, including evening and weekend appointments, plus virtual sessions, make it easier to prioritize your mental health.

Stigma and privacy: It’s natural to feel hesitant about seeking help, but remember that anxiety is a treatable mental health condition. At Grow Therapy, we have built our online therapy platform to prioritize your privacy and connect you with understanding professionals who create safe, judgment-free spaces.

Finding the right fit: Not every therapist is the right match for every person, and that’s okay. Our detailed provider profiles and filtering options help you find someone who aligns with your preferences and needs. If you find the provider you choose is not the right fit, Grow Therapy makes it easy to switch and find a new provider who better fits your needs and what you’re seeking in your care.

Getting started with anxiety therapy in Illinois

What to expect in your first session

Your first therapy session is designed to help you and your therapist get to know each other and begin understanding your anxiety experiences. Your therapist will likely ask about:

  • Your current anxiety symptoms and triggers
  • How anxiety impacts your daily life
  • Your personal and family mental health history
  • Your goals for treatment
  • Any previous therapy experiences

This initial session is also your opportunity to ask questions about the therapeutic process, your therapist’s approach, and what you can expect moving forward. To learn more about the therapy process, check out our guide to going to therapy.

Preparing for your anxiety treatment journey

Questions to Ask Your Therapist:

  • What is your experience helping people who have signs of anxiety?
  • What therapeutic approaches do you use for anxiety?
  • How long does treatment typically take?
  • What can I do between sessions to support my progress?
  • How will we measure progress?

Setting realistic expectations: Anxiety treatment is a process, not a quick fix. While many people experience some relief early in treatment, developing lasting coping skills and seeing significant symptom reduction typically takes time and consistent effort.

Developing coping strategies: Your therapist will work with you to develop personalized coping strategies that you can use both in and outside of your sessions. These might include breathing exercises, grounding techniques, challenging unhelpful thoughts, or mindfulness practices.

Insurance and affordability for anxiety treatment in Illinois

Making therapy accessible

Insurance coverage options: Many major insurance plans cover mental health treatment, including therapy for anxiety. Our Illinois therapists accept a wide range of insurance providers, including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and many others. Insurance providers do vary by state, however, so please verify that your insurance is available in Illinois.

Understanding your benefits: We help you understand your mental health benefits, including copays, deductibles, and coverage limits. This transparency allows you to make informed decisions about your care. To learn more about how therapy and insurance work together, check out our guide to understanding insurance for therapy.

Additional support options: For those without insurance or with limited coverage, many of our therapists offer cash options, and employee assistance programs (EAPs) through your workplace may also provide free or low-cost counseling sessions.
