Hello! I am a graduate from the University of Illinois School of Social Work Champaign-Urbana. I also received training at the Center for Family Studies/The Family Institute of Chicago and am a Fellow in the American Group Psychotherapy Association. As a senior clinician, I have many years of training and practice in the provision of trauma informed care, serious mental illness and treatment for addictions, anxiety, and depression. My approach is cognitive, interpersonal, and trauma informed utilizing family systems theory and enhanced by many years of experience with diverse populations. I have expertise in working with adolescents and adults in both individual, couples, group, and family therapy. I believe if you can change how you think, you can change how you feel. I also believe humor is an important element in the change process. It helps one cope with problematic patterns and emotions in a way that is palatable to the soul, encouraging motivation for growth. It is important to be able to laugh as you grow in therapy, making the process less intimidating and more satisfying. Having me as your therapist will open up new ways of looking at yourself and encourage novel ways of thinking about the concerns that brought you into therapy. First, it is important to find relief, then hope, then the capacity to change what you want to improve in your life. You will know early on in therapy, if we are a good match for each other and whether I can help you make the changes in your life that you are wanting to accomplish.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session will begin with discussing what brings you into therapy. You can expect me to be nonjudgmental about your concerns and I will provide feedback as we assess therapeutic fit and comfort with proceeding. I will share my initial impressions and treatment approach to give you a sense of how we will work together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am easy to talk to. I will help you feel safe and comfortable as you discuss your concerns. I have a good sense of humor. The majority of people I work with get better. If I don't think I can help you, I will let you know and help you transition to someone who may be a better fit for you.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

How you think contributes to how you feel and behave. Client response to this approach has been positive because they benefit from having new perspectives on their concerns and that helps them identify problem areas and assists in clarifying goals and behavior change objectives.

Trauma Informed Care

Attention is given to the impact of clients' trauma in a safe environment where clients can examine and change thought distortions, dysfunctional symptoms and healthier ways of responding to old triggers.

Family Therapy

The family systems approach lends itself to understanding early childhood influences on thoughts, feelings and behaviors. A systems approach can work in individual as well as couples and family therapy to uncover emotional blocks in order to change behaviors to achieve symptom improvement.
