Hi! I'm Emily and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Art Therapist, and Professional School Counselor. I received my Master's in Counseling Psychology, with an emphasis in Art Therapy, at Adler University (formerly the Adler School of Professional Psychology) and School Counseling Endorsement from DePaul University. I have been practicing for over 12 years and I help individuals, adolescent through adulthood, manage emotional distress and learn healthy coping strategies to reach a higher level of social-emotional wellbeing.
During our first session, I will introduce myself, and try to understand the challenges you are facing. I will ask questions to understand the history of these challenges, what may trigger a heightened level of emotional distress, and what/if any coping strategies and supports you already have in place. From there I will create a plan to help you achieve your goals towards a higher level of increased social-emotional wellbeing.
I love what I do and truly enjoy connecting with and helping my clients. Through working with diverse clients over the past 12 years, I have strengthened my skills in helping individuals understand the complexities of their emotions. I have a wealth of healthy coping strategies to teach and add to your "toolbox" to turn to in moments of distress. My goal as a therapist is for you to gain self-confidence and independence in these skills, to the point that you no longer need me.
I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to collaborate with me and make positive changes in their lives. My goal is to help my clients gain insight into their emotions and thought processes, while learning healthy coping strategies and self-care routines. I love when my clients are able to independantly recognize their cues to distress and utilize a tool to help shift their emotional state. This in turn can help clients improve habits and behaviors, relationships, and academic/job success and satisfaction.
When working with clients, I use CBT to help them gain further insight into their emotions and how they impact their thoughts and actions. We then focus on learning and practicing coping strategies and self-care routines to help regulate emotions and maintain social-emotional wellbeing.
