Finding a therapist can be an overwhelming task. Life can be full of complexities that can be difficult to navigate. Considering that you may be feeling sad or overwhelmed, I commend you for taking the brave first steps toward taking care of yourself. I believe in the value and worth of the person and that we all possess strengths to help us in the journey of life. If you have been feeling stuck, we can work together to uncover what is holding you back and help you to develop the tools that will move you forward. A key component to beginning this process is to find someone who can put you at ease. I have been told I am easy to talk to and make providing a safe, comfortable, non-judgmental, and empathetic environment a top priority. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor (CRADC) in the state of Illinois. I have been in the field for close to 20 years and have been in private practice for 10. I specialize in helping people recover from anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders. I utilize a collaborative, whole-person approach that values the relationship between therapist and client and sees the client as the expert. This is your story! I’m just walking through it with you, and I’m honored you chose me!
In our first session together we will begin to gather information: what is important to you to accomplish in your healing journey, how is your present struggle impacting your self-care behaviors (eating, sleeping, relationships, energy, etc), and an overview of any past or current trauma you may be experiencing. We will do two sessions to gather this information and have a conversation about the therapeutic goals and approximately how long it will take to complete these goals by the middle to end of our second intake session.
My authenticity and honesty are my greatest strengths as a clinician. What you see is what you get with me, and I am warm, empathetic, and compassionate. I am also one of the least judgmental people you will ever work with.
Populations I work best with include adolescents, young adults, adults, and older adults. My ideal client is motivated towards change and willing to do the work, even when the going gets tough. I enjoy working with clients who value a holistic approach to taking care of themselves. This may include doing yoga, working out, drinking plenty of water, eating healthy foods, a solid support system, and nurturing your spirituality, whatever you conceive that to be.

I utilize CBT because it teaches us about the importance of what we think as contributing to how we feel and what we do in response. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has been heavily researched as an evidence-based treatment, meaning there is a large body of research that shows its efficacy.
I am trained in Motivational Interviewing techniques which help to highlight what the client expresses as important goals to work towards by highlighting what motivates the client. Motivational Interviewing is helpful because the client is the expert and the counselor helps to highlight key indicators towards positive, healthy changes.
So many of us hold beliefs centered around "I'm not good enough" or "I deserve bad things to happen to me." Past trauma and abuse can lead to a negative view of onself, and I work hard to live as compassionately as possible and teach my clients how to heal these wounds. Self-compassion is a useful skill that I am well versed in and helps to restore a sense of self-worth. I have utilized Compassion Focused treatment for over a decade and love getting to witness the transformation that begins to take place when a client heals their wounded parts and begins to live their truth and authenticity: that we are perfectly imperfect beings who deserve love and respect.
