Hello!!! I am Jeri Howell a Licensed therapist from Illinois. I have a Master's Degree in Human Development Counseling and i have been practicing for over 25 years. I want to help people recognize their own strengths and build on the resilience they already possess. I work with individuals and couples as well as teens and young adults. I am available for telehealth and in person at the Be Well Therapy Center in Mt Sterling IL.
From the first session we will be building our rapport and I will do my best to help you manage whatever you are struggling with. i will challenge you to think differently and explore what changes you may want to make in order to achieve goals you may have for your life. We will collaborate throughout the process, reviewing goals and strategies that may or may not be working and adjust treatment methods as needed.
I love working with a diverse population. I want to help my clients be seen and heard without judgement and feel validated in their feelings and experiences.
In sessions will engage in active problem solving and explore your own unique way of thinking about the problem based on your own core beliefs and life experiences. Together we will explore emotions connected to the way you think about the problem and actively evaluate potential solutions. We will begin to restructure your thought process and challenge some of the old beliefs that have kept you on a negative thought loop that often leads to unhelpful and ineffective ways of coping and even how you have been approaching relationships.
I incorporate several DBT skill sets and encourage my clients to practice skills so that they recognize that they can control how they think and feel. I help them recognize the benefits of working to be in our wise mind and see the value and benefit of balancing our rational mind and emotion mind. We will explore grounding techniques for situations in which an individual may struggle with trauma responses and become dysregulated.
I enjoy finding groups that help people gather and build supports from a common need all members may be looking to fill. I feel people can benefit from interacting within a group setting and build supports via a common issue they all may be struggling with. It can help to see others are going through the same things as us and we can get so many added perspectives when we engage in group treatment.
I feel that each individual in a relationship brings their own set of strengths and areas for growth and understanding. We will work to establish core issues that each of you bring to the relationship and learn about your individual schemas that can guide some possible ineffective communication styles and interactions you have with your partner. We will work on communicating and listening to each other so that you can each be a better person and partner in all your relationships.
