I am a licensed independent clinical social worker with over 14 years of experience working as a clinician, therapist , and crisis interventionist. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, substance use problems, psychosis, and ADHD. I also helped people who have experienced trauma and/or emotional abuse. I would like to clarify my expertise does not include eating disorders, or pornography addiction as of yet, although I do understand some of the symptoms and causes.
My therapy style is genuine and solution focused.. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My approach is dialectical behavioral based with strengths perspective and motivational interviewing. Any treatment plan to meet your needs will be collaborative, timely, and with measurable goals. I have worked extensively in crisis intervention in the agency and on the streets, in hospitals, and in mental health courts and case management agencies, and have managed in this capacity. I also have many years experience related to substance use disorders and have worked as a therapist utilizing primarily Dialectical Behavioral Therapy as my main approach as well as utilizing Cognitive Behavior Therapy .

I'm Jamie Matthews, and I've been a counselor since 2007. I truly enjoy assisting clients in achieving their treatment objectives. Counseling, in my opinion, is about change, and I think people can alter any behavior that isn't working in their lives. I began my career in community mental health, where I worked with people who had severe and chronic mental illness. I gained a lot of experience assisting people in managing symptoms of severe anxiety, severe depression, hallucinations, and delusions. Using evidence-based techniques, I conducted mostly group counseling sessions and a few individual counseling sessions between 2007 and 2015. I worked as an outpatient therapist for children, adults, and families in a community mental health setting from 2015 to 2021. I have been working with clients in my own private practice since 2021, primarily utilizing telehealth services. Reaching clients in Ohio and Florida has been a great pleasure for me. I still employ DBT, CBT, mindfulness, and other methods to help my clients achieve their therapeutic objectives.
