Hello! I am a Christian, a professional, a wife and mother, and I enjoy interacting with people just like you. I have been in private practice for over 20 years, and prior to that, I was a social worker for Children's Services and residential staff at Juvenile Court facilities. I am an adoptive parent and was a foster parent for ten years. I was an Independent Trainer for foster parents and Social Workers for a decade through the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program.

First session

The first session allows us to get to know each other, to identify the issues or problems that motivated you to seek therapy, and for me to assess your mental health. We can then set some Goals that you will be working to achieve.

Strengths

I utilize a holistic approach that considers emotional, physical, spiritual, relational, occupational, and mental health, urging clients to nurture themselves in each of these areas of life. This includes exercise, diet, enjoying nature, social connections, spiritual growth, and taking inventory of relational and occupational choices. Most clients seek counseling because they are experiencing discomfort, or a painful crisis, in their lives. While empathizing with the pain, I seek to help clients use it as a catalyst for positive growth and change. We practice helpful techniques to make you stronger, more resilient and develop self-efficacy. I am effective at Parent-coaching and Family Therapy.

Ideal clients

A person or couple who are motivated to improve his/her life or their relationship and is/are willing to engage in consistent sessions to accomplish the goals. This client would be willing to do "homework" that is given between sessions and put thought and effort into it for his/her own benefit. The ideal client is open to learning new habits and skills and utilizing them. He/she will own his/her choices and part in life or relational difficulties and seek better ways to handle situations and make decisions in the future.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the most Evidence-Based Method of Psychotherapy used, and the most effective with Depression, Anxiety disorders, Behavioral disorders, and most of the common issues that are presented. We identify irrational and unhelpful thought patterns and work on replacing them with rational/logical and helpful thoughts. Our thoughts trigger our emotions , which lead to our behavioral responses. We also practice more effective behavioral responses to feelings.

Faith based therapy

With clients who share faith in God, I utilize Scripture and Judao-Christian principles as part of the growth and change process. CBT is consistent with Biblical teaching and, therefore, the two go hand-in-hand very well.
