I have lived a life much like most of my clients. I have experienced hardships and achievements, sadness and joy, and disappointment in myself and in others. For most of my life, I have been lucky enough to somehow “figure it out” on my own. At one point in my life, I made a commitment to myself that no one should have to “figure it out” on their own. We all need to have someone who is committed to helping us out when we are at our most vulnerable.

I approach therapy as a collaborative and nonjudgmental space where your story matters. I aim to be curious with you—exploring patterns, beliefs, and behaviors with care rather than criticism. While I draw on structured techniques from CBT, trauma-informed care, and narrative therapy, our work will always be shaped by your goals and needs. I believe that people thrive when they feel understood, and that therapy can be a place to reconnect with your inner strengths and values. Whether you're seeking tools for coping or space to process deeper emotional pain, I meet you where you are and walk alongside you. My hope is that you walk away with both insight and practical support—whether that’s a new perspective, a shift in self-compassion, or a concrete strategy to try between sessions. I work to ensure that therapy isn’t just a place to vent, but a space where meaningful change can take root.
I have been a Mind, Body and Spirit counselor for 14 years. As a Pastoral Counselor I will help you examine not just your mental and physical well-being but also your spiritual well-being. Are you someone who is feeling stuck, unsupported, unbalanced, having difficulty with relationships, and/or having trouble navigating a family/work/self-care balance? Are you a parent who struggles to connect with your child or manage your child's challenging behaviors? Are you an adolescent or young adult who is having difficulty with your social life or managing life transitions? If any or all of these are true, or if you are just someone who is seeking some extra support to uncover more joy and satisfaction in your life I am here to help.
In our work together, my goal will be to collaborate with you to uncover your true potential and provide guidance to overcome the challenges you are facing, and to unpack and release any roadblocks which have been holding you back from healing and growth. We will work together to better understand and resolve challenges in an environment of support and guidance.
I have expertise in using cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic approaches and will use my interpersonal style to help you feel better in your life. Over the past 15+ years, I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults with symptoms of depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma and relationship difficulties. A client comes in to see her therapist and is 10 minutes late. She sits down and apologizes for her tardiness, to which the therapist replies that no apologies are necessary as clients are only late for their first session.
The vignette illustrates something that I see in clients repeatedly who come into my office. Many should have come in at least a year or two ago but for some reason think that the problems they experience are still manageable.
While I admire the will of many of those who still manage life like the proverbial Dutch Boy and the dike, I believe that asking for help is a strength of its own. In therapy, I come from the perspective of someone that had to receive help at various times in my life. I've also had a meandering career path, meaning that I've worked in several fields and industries prior to becoming a therapist and have been able to do ground-level empathizing with people who work in blue and white-collar professions.

I offer a space for people seeking a deeper and more compassionate understanding of themselves. Many people come to therapy struggling in relationships, navigating complex family dynamics, or feeling unsure of who they are and what direction they want their life to move in. Often, there is a desire for more peace, clarity, authenticity, and a stronger sense of alignment, all of which I believe are possible through deeper self-understanding and meaningful therapeutic work.
My approach to therapy is relational, meaning that connection, trust, and feeling truly seen are a central part of the therapeutic process. Therapy can provide an opportunity to better understand the patterns, beliefs, and ways of relating that may be contributing to difficulties in relationships, feeling stuck, disconnected from yourself, or struggling to feel fully at peace in your life.
I view therapy as more than just symptom management. It can be a rich, rewarding, and empowering experience that helps you feel more connected to yourself, more grounded in your identity and values, and more confident in the way you move through life and relationships. My goal is to help you develop greater clarity, self-understanding, self-compassion, and the ability to show up more fully and authentically in your life.
Does life, work, or family situations have you stressed, anxious, or depressed? Or is something from the past just refusing to stay buried? Then look no further! I love getting into all of the surface and all of the deep, dark things with my clients and do so in a warm, accepting, positive, and non-judgmental space. In this space, I LOVE hearing people's stories, and from these stories, I can help you close chapters and create new ones.
Hello, my name is Jenica ( JEN i kuh, like Jessica, but with an "n" instead of "ss") and I've been therapist since Sept 1, 2011. I'm licensed in AL, WI, MD, DC, and DE, with my home base in Alabama currently. I'm grateful to have lived in the Southeast (where I'm from), the Intermountain West, and the Midwest, and traveled around the world, where I have gained beautiful and rich experiences from so many different cultures and peoples. I feel my travels have given me unique perspectives not just about the world but also how each of us fit so beautifully and perfectly into the world.
A highly experienced therapist with a broadly humanist perspective serving an exceptionally wide range of people experiencing a great variety of life's challenges in various human service and treatment capacities over a span of more than thirty years and in private practice for more than six, who enjoys helping those who are frustrated, anxious and depressed and troubled move forward and become more of what they could and wish to be in life and in their relationships, and who would be happy working with you, your child, your spouse, or your family members individually or together!
I hold space for empathic, self-aware women those who have been silently shape-shifting, overcompensating, and staying too long in environments and relationships that never saw their worth. I created this space because I was that woman too.
For years, I tried to earn my belonging. I minimized myself, ignored my needs, and believed love had to be earned through performance, perfection, or people-pleasing. I silenced my truth to keep the peace. But beneath the masks was a soul craving to be seen, heard, and held as she was. No fixing, no proving, just being.
My healing journey began the moment I decided to stop outsourcing my worth. Through deep inner work, spiritual reconnection, and holistic practices that align the mind, body, and soul I discovered that healing is less about becoming someone new and more about remembering who you’ve always been.
That remembering led me here to this sacred work, this calling, and this container I now offer to you.
As a licensed certified clinical therapist grounded in holistic healing that utilizes attachment theory, mindful self compassion, and cognitive behavioral therapy along with other holistic modalities to help women heal people pleasing, resentment, and reclaim worthiness, I am here to walk beside you as you uncover the truth of who you are beneath the coping and survival patterns. We’ll go beneath the surface and do the soul work compassionately, intentionally, and at your pace.
You deserve a life that feels aligned. You deserve to be held, seen, and supported in that journey.
So if you’re ready to explore your inner landscape, release the patterns no longer serving you, and step into the worthy, whole, and deeply rooted version of yourself…
I’d be honored to walk with you.
Let’s begin the journey back to you.

Are you feeling depressed and anxious? Are you finding your life is in turmoil because you have to make a change? Maybe you are changing careers or jobs, you’re recently divorced, your home is now an empty nest, or you are retiring. These are only a few of life’s transitions that can bring on depression and anxiety. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the therapy I use most often, states that A (Antecedent action or event) + B (our belief about that antecedent action or event) = Consequences, (depression or happiness). If you think of a transition or event (A) as a negative experience (B), you will experience the consequences of your belief, as depression and anxiety (C-negative) or as happiness and excitement (C-positive).
Unfortunately, many of us view a transition or change as a bad thing, a time when we are facing the unknown without a map. I would like to help you see change as an opportunity, a time for growth and exploration. Come with me. Together we can make change a positive force for a bright future.
please schedule appoints only on the hour.😀
