New to Grow
Welcome! I work with individuals who have experienced trauma in their childhood as well as throughout their lives. This compiled trauma over the years can often cause trouble emotionally regulating or feeling strong in your sense of self. Maybe you struggle with perfectionism, all or nothing thinking, or self criticism. Perhaps you have struggled with controlling your impulses, relationships never seem to stick, and chaos and crisis seems to follow you wherever you go. We can process and relieve feelings such as shame, distrust, overwhelm, panic, irritability, anger, and depression without judgement.
While therapy with me is laid back and warm, it is also "no nonsense." I know you are in pain and want to start feeling better ASAP. While I utilized several modalities of therapy including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, and Somatic Therapy, individuals coming for EMDR will likely start processing memories in the second session. EMDR is a "bottom up" therapy that targets the root cause of anxiety, depression, grief, interpersonal conflict, and trauma and PTSD so that the symptoms then quickly dissipate. While we can always have a "talk therapy" session, I enjoy practicing EMDR in particular because it can be so comprehensive and bring relief quickly.
I value the therapeutic relationship and create a safe space as helpful tools for healing, and will often work from a "backwards, forwards" mentality. We will explore childhood family dynamics to stop history from repeating itself as well as to help you become more empowered over your past. Making different choices in the present will change your future. I am highly trained in mindfulness as well as non judgement. We can move at your pace and take plenty of time for me to get to you know you, or we can jump right in. You are in the drivers seat of your therapy with me.
My goal is to use a mind, body, spirit approach to help you heal past wounds and continue to learn and grow into the best version of you. Transformation is possible. We will address your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors so that you will be able to to experience long lasting change. I look forward to meeting you!
EMDR
I am a certified EMDR therapist, and I use this technique to help clients get to the root of their challenges. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy is designed to help clients process emotionally charged memories and move them into "long term storage" in the brain so that they are not as disruptive. We will work together to identify memories to reprocess as well as negative beliefs about yourself that you would like to change throughout the reprocessing.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Acceptance and Commitment therapy is designed to help you get unstuck by clarifying your values and taking committed action towards the direction that you want your life to go. I will use ACT techniques to help you reflect on what it is that you need and want in situations and help you clarify and determine next steps.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is based on the idea that your thoughts lead to your feelings, which ultimately lead to your actions. We can work to build awareness of your thoughts and feelings so that you will be able to change problematic behaviors.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
There are four identified modules in DBT which are: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation. I can teach you different skills from each module that can provide practical options for managing intense emotions in the moment.
