Mary Tiffin

LCSW20 years of experience

I'm a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with over twenty years of experience. I've dedicated my practice to helping clients make changes, find peace, and strengthen their mental health. I aim to help you build effective coping strategies, encourage meaningful growth, and navigate life's complexities.

Whether navigating grief, single parenting, anxiety, or depression, my goal is to help clients feel empowered, find hope, and move toward meaningful and lasting change.

I look forward to working with you to create positive, lasting changes.

First session

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a trusting therapeutic relationship. My goal is to create a warm, welcoming, and judgment-free environment where you feel comfortable sharing your concerns and what has brought you to therapy. During our first meeting, we will explore what has been happening in your life, identify the challenges you may be facing, and discuss what you hope to gain from therapy. You will have the opportunity to share your story at your own pace, ask questions, and talk about what is important to you. You can expect to feel listened to, understood, and supported. We will begin identifying your strengths, explore possible ways to manage life's challenges, and discuss how we can work together toward your personal goals. Most importantly, you do not need to have all the answers or know exactly where to begin. Taking that first step is an accomplishment in itself.

Strengths

I believe that therapy should be a safe, supportive, and welcoming space where people feel comfortable being themselves. With over 20 years of experience, I bring compassion, understanding, and a genuine desire to help individuals navigate life's challenges. My approach is personalized because I recognize that everyone's experiences, struggles, and needs are different. I value building a trusting therapeutic relationship where clients feel heard, respected, and supported without judgment. I believe in meeting people where they are, helping them recognize their strengths, develop healthy coping strategies, and discover new perspectives. Whether navigating grief, single parenting, anxiety, or depression, my goal is to help clients feel empowered, find hope, and move toward meaningful and lasting change. I don't believe anyone should have to face life's challenges alone. Therapy is an opportunity for growth, healing, and discovering that change is possible.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is someone who is navigating life's challenges and is looking for support, understanding, and guidance. They may be experiencing grief or loss, struggling with anxiety or depression, adjusting to the demands of single parenting, or feeling overwhelmed by life's responsibilities and transitions. I enjoy working with individuals who want a safe, supportive space where they can openly express their feelings, explore their experiences, and work toward positive change. My clients do not need to have all the answers or even know where to begin. They simply need to be open to the possibility that things can get better. I welcome individuals who are ready to gain a deeper understanding of themselves, build on their strengths, develop healthier coping skills, and find renewed hope and confidence. My goal is to meet each person where they are, honor their individual journey, and walk alongside them as they work toward healing, growth, and a more fulfilling life.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) into my practice to help clients better understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence one another. I believe that the way we think about ourselves and the situations we experience can significantly impact how we feel and respond to life's challenges. Together, we identify negative or unhelpful thought patterns that may contribute to anxiety, depression, grief, or feelings of being overwhelmed. I help clients explore these patterns, develop healthier ways of thinking, and learn practical strategies to manage difficult emotions and situations. Our work may include recognizing triggers, challenging negative self-talk, developing coping skills, setting achievable goals, and practicing new ways of responding to stressful situations. I use CBT in a collaborative and supportive way, tailoring techniques to each client's individual needs and personal experiences. My goal is to help clients gain greater self-awareness, build confidence, and develop tools they can use beyond the therapy session. I believe therapy should not only help you understand what you are going through but also give you practical tools to help you move forward.
