Something you may be curious about is why I became a therapist. There’s a long version and a short version, so I think I’ll give you the medium version. I’ve always enjoyed connecting with people. I have always enjoyed building relationships with others, and helping where and when I can. I can honestly say. I have a lot of life experiences that have helped me with being subjective, and have cultivated who I am today. During my journey, I was able to spend time with people who were different than me, which has helped expand my mind, understand, admire, and connect with people who have a wide variety of views, beliefs, and experiences. After I graduated college, I worked at a community mental health agency that has provided me with a lot of experiences in many different areas of mental health. It is a lot of work, but I am truly grateful for the opportunity to work with so many different people, and in different capacities. I am passionate about the human experience, and I currently see my mission as empowering others to explore their identity, discovering their authentic selves, and allow themselves to step into their truth. It is important to know I am on this journey of life myself! I’m not a therapist who thinks she has all the answers, or who’s going to give you my opinions as fact, or who will tell you exactly what you should do. I see my role as a dedicated partner here to collaborate with you and assist you in uncovering all the layers that make you who you are.

Hello! I am a licensed clinical social worker serving individuals in Illinois, Texas, and South Carolina. My background includes working with families who have faced abuse, neglect, and legal challenges. I have also worked as a hospice social worker, where I provided support and education to families navigating the end-of-life process, helping them prepare to say goodbye to their loved ones. In public schools, I conducted assessments and evaluations for students struggling academically, developed Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and offered social-emotional education and individual support for students dealing with issues such as peer relationships, bullying, anger, anxiety, and other challenges that can affect their learning and growth. For several years, I have been in private practice, assisting both children and adults facing difficulties related to depression and anxiety, as well as supporting older adults dealing with lifestyle changes and health concerns. I also have experience helping individuals cope with grief. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a key element of my therapeutic approach. This evidence-based method equips clients with tailored tools and strategies. Together, we will identify triggers and explore ways to alleviate the physical and emotional symptoms you may be experiencing. Having been raised in a military family and lived in various states, I have gained unique insights into community, culture, and the importance of building new relationships. I am eager to learn and develop a trusting relationship with you as we work together to enhance your well-being and foster self-compassion on your journey.

I’m a board-certified Licensed Professional Counselor with a doctorate in psychology and over 20 years of experience supporting adults through anxiety, trauma, grief, and life transitions. I believe therapy should be a safe, collaborative space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to grow. My approach is warm, nonjudgmental, and grounded in the belief that everyone has the capacity to heal and thrive. I use evidence-based treatment methods tailored to each client’s needs, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, mindfulness, solution-focused techniques, and person-centered therapy. When requested, I integrate Christian faith into therapy to support healing, provide spiritual perspective, and align emotional work with personal values. I work well with clients who are ready to explore emotional patterns, past experiences, or stressors that may be keeping them stuck. Whether you’re overwhelmed by anxiety, processing trauma, grieving a loss, or seeking deeper self-understanding, I aim to meet you where you are and walk with you at a pace that feels right. My clinical work is informed by ongoing professional development, national conference training, and active membership in the American Counseling Association, the American Psychological Association, and The National Society of Leadership and Success. I strive to offer a thoughtful, affirming space where you can build insight, resilience, and a grounded sense of self. Therapy with me is a partnership — one that honors your voice, your goals, and your capacity for meaningful change.

Accepting new clients! Depression, anger, anxiety, and just trying to figure out how to make it in the world today can be difficult to do alone. My passion is to guide people through this journey to help them find peace in an otherwise chaotic world. If you are ready for change and want to talk to someone that can help you feel grounded and ready to face the world, please reach out to me. For clinically less intense, but still troubling problems, I utilize personal coaching techniques and Motivational Interviewing Techniques. If you are dealing with depression, anger, or anxiety and want this type of change in your life then I am here to help. I know that you are probably tired of the struggles that have held you down in the past. It can be exhausting to try and do it alone. What if you could write the story of your life? The truth is, you can, you are in control of your destiny, you are writing the story of your life right now. The choices you make are directly related to the thoughts you have. That puts you in control, you have the ability to change the way you think, and when you change the way you think, you change your life. The thoughts you are thinking right now are writing the story of your life. If you are not happy with the story, you can reprogram your thoughts to change the story and write it the way you want it to go. Together you and I can work to manage the challenges you are facing today. Therapy may seem scary or even overwhelming, but with the right partner you really can change your life. Together we will explore how your thoughts and the dimensions of wellness are affecting your life and find a path to change the story of your life, to one of positive emotional and mental well-being.

I am Sunny Alexander, and I’ve been in practice for ten years treating clients working in various job placements. I’ve treated clients working inpatient and outpatient at a hospital. I instructed Intro to Psychology at a community college and I’ve been in private practice for ten years. My unique counseling services create safe space for healing and self-optimization for individuals striving to find purpose and evolution of the self. Through healing and and self growth, my clients are able to let go of a ‘ceiling-paradigm’ to live more meaningful and enriched lifestyles. I help clients learn to cope in healthy ways with the symptoms that they experience and we work together to explore how to thrive versus survive.

Everyone in life has a unique story. Sometimes, we need assistance guiding us through those stories. I enjoy helping children, and young adults learn coping skills to manage struggles in life. I have been in public education for over twenty years. I have worked in general education (K-12) and with the special education population (K-12). I began my career as a life skills teacher, special education co-teacher, and finally a special education counselor. The focus of my career has been working with students with behavioral issues, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. I have also assisted school staff with their struggles.
