I’m a dedicated therapist based in Texas who wants to help my clients navigate life’s challenges and I often work with clients who feel like they're having a tough time getting along with their families, partners or friends. They often feel like others might hear them, but they don't really listen to what they're trying to say. Other times, they have a hard time being vulnerable with others because those close to them have lost their trust. A lot of people feel stuck because they've tried everything in their power to resolve these types of issues themselves, so I work with my clients to help them learn to manage, communicate and resolve things in a more healthy manner. I believe that with the right support and tools anyone can develop the skills needed to cope with life’s difficulties. It’s very fulfilling for me to work with my clients and see them feel empowered, recognize their potential and live more fulfilling and balanced lives. (I speak English and Spanish)
Scheduling and showing up for a 1st session is already a big step. We'll go over the process of therapy and I will have a chance to start getting a better understanding about what brought you to counseling. That could mean getting some background history and making a list of symptoms that are affecting you right now. We will also set goals for future sessions and talk about the things you would like to change, improve or learn about. I can also answer any questions you might have about therapy if you've never had a session before.
I'm pretty straight forward myself, so I try to help others communicate in a respectful way that still gets their message across and allows them to feel heard. I also know that what works for one person or couple won't work for everyone else, so I tailor the treatment to the client or client's I'm speaking with at that moment. I know we're all human and I had to learn a lot of these skills for myself, so I know it takes time and practice to get things down.
My clients often wanted help resolving conflict, adjusting to life changes, managing stress, anxiety, depression or trauma. They often felt like the were stuck because they had tried everything in their power to make these changes, but there was something missing that kept it from working out. They might feel they can't trust the people they're close to, even if it's family or friends. They might have more frequent arguments because of this or they might feel like they can't trust the people they're close to enough to be vulnerable. This can lead to feeling more isolated, feeling sad, alone, being more withdrawn, feeling taken advantage of, misunderstood, taken for granted and not appreciated. They also might not know how to build healthy relationships. It was not their fault that they were feeling this way because a lot of us are not taught how to deal with such situations in the best manner while we were growing up. However, it's never too late to learn something new and build new skills to manage these difficulties.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapeutic approach that can help reduce stress and other symptoms such as anxiety and depression that get in the way of everyday life. Clients learn about how thoughts, feelings and behaviors influence each other and use the tools that CBT provides them to learn how to improve their mental well-being.
Couples counseling can be used to help couples navigate and resolve issues within their relationship by improving things such as their communication skills, conflict resolution skills and improving trust. This can lead to couples having a better understanding of one another and greater overall relationship satisfaction.
Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) deals with helping clients break down bigger goals into smaller steps and solutions. They can identify challenges that are getting in the way of heir success and can build their confidence along the way by having a better understanding of their strengths and resources.
Psychoeducation is the part of the counseling process where clients learn more about their symptoms, what the symptoms mean and how they could be affecting their everyday life. They can also learn more about the process of therapy and what they can do about their symptoms. This can lead to clients having a better understanding of themselves and an improvement in their ability to cope with their symptoms outside of therapy.
