Hello there! I'm Devin. I truly believe therapy shouldn't have to feel like a job interview. It's an opportunity to discover great qualities about yourself in the hopes that you can become more empowered and confident about your abilities than you did before. I strive to assist teenagers/adults that struggle with some of the most difficult challenges they face daily (i.e. depression, anxiety, history of trauma, & stress). We will be able to work collectively to identify skills and techniques that help manage some of the negative emotions that stem from burnout at school/work, relationship/friendship issues, and low self-esteem issues. At the end of the day, I like to provide you the power to dictate which way you want to go with your self-healing. You deserve to feel happy, and you deserve to be able to have control over your life. I would love to start working with you!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I am a person who likes to focus on the person and their background the first session, so I love to inquire more about life, their interests, and their dislikes, in the hopes to establish trust and a relationship. I do collect a lot of background information about the client's history, along with explain a lot about the rules of therapy and guidelines I follow by.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I love to be a listening ear! Most of the client's I serve are not in an environment where there are people that are adequately listening to there problems and concerns, so I intend of giving you the chance to express things that you are not able to express to others. I'm interpersonal and empathetic with my approach, so you can be able to feel comfortable in your own skin and not have to hold anything back!

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

Young adults (age 18-24) I am open to Adults (25+) as well.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I incorporate elements of CBT through active/reflective listening, along with provide feedback to clients on how their negative thoughts might impact their daily functioning. In addition, I provide additional perspective to certain situations my clients discuss with me to help them see a different viewpoint that their cognitive distortions (negative thoughts) might cloud them from seeing.

EMDR

I have some basic training in EMDR to help clients process traumatic memories through eye movements, in the hopes that it can help them change their negative view about themselves. I make sure to incorporate mindfulness exercises and coping skills to help regulate my clients before we start the desensitization process, along with use assessments such as the Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation (MID 2.0) or the Dissociative Experience Scale (DES-II) to assess whether or not a client is a good fit for EMDR sessions.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I use trauma focused CBT as an alternative way to help client discuss their trauma in a way that doesn't cause them distress, as well as help them change the trauma narrative they have about themselves into a more positive and forgiving perspective of their traumatic experiences. Much of this centers around learning coping skills and more talk therapy than EMDR.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use ACT as a way to teach my clients practical coping skills/grounding techniques that they can use everyday to help relax themselves along with manage whatever distress they feel through the day.
