INDIVIDUAL THERAPY - A Healthy Outside Starts from the Inside
My specialty is relationships. Not just the relationships you have with
those around you, but the relationship you have with yourself. Life
should not be a struggle; it should be an adventure you enjoy.
Therapy can help you whether you are trapped in a routine
that's no longer serving you, facing a new difficulty, or simply
seeking to improve the general quality of your life.
Asking for help is one of the most courageous things you can do for yourself. Life can be stressful, and you can feel pulled in many different directions.
Being an African American man growing up in Los Angeles, I have faced my share of challenges and obstacles and when stress sets in, I understand that even the smallest pebble can feel like a major Boulder. I come from a traditional family where men and oftentimes women are discouraged from seeking help to deal with life's struggles and stresses. I aim to fill that void and change that narrative.
I empower Men, Women and Families to seek to understand their struggles, anxieties and life challenges and to overcome them.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with five years of experience providing individual therapy for adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, and major life transitions. I am deeply committed to helping clients heal emotionally, build resilience, and reconnect with their sense of worth and purpose. My passion for this work is rooted in lived experience. Moving to Nigeria at the age of six, losing my father at twelve, and later experiencing the loss of my newborn taught me firsthand about grief, strength, and the importance of compassionate support. These experiences shaped both who I am and how I show up as a therapist—with empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a deep respect for each client’s journey. I believe healing happens when people feel safe, understood, and empowered. My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and grounded in helping clients move from feeling overwhelmed or stuck toward clarity, emotional balance, and meaningful personal growth.
I earned my doctorate and post-graduate master's degrees in psychology and my master's degree in counseling from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. Professionally, I retired from the United States Air Force as a senior non-commissioned officer, and since retiring, have worked in several different behavioral health settings. In addition to my private practice, I am a graduate-level adjunct professor of counseling psychology.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a diverse clinical background supporting individuals across different stages of life. I began my career providing counseling services to high school students in the Central Valley and later worked within the legal system for over two years. I have experience in inpatient settings providing crisis intervention, as well as outpatient work on a mobile response team supporting individuals in acute distress.
As a mother of a young child, I developed a strong passion for perinatal and postpartum mental health, which I have specialized in for the past two years. This combination of professional and personal experience allows me to provide compassionate, practical support to clients navigating life transitions, stress, and emotional challenges.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in California, and I support clients who are moving through change, stress, relationships, parenting challenges, or self-discovery with compassion and curiosity. I bring both lived experience and clinical training to my work as a therapist, shaped as an immigrant, navigating a bicultural household, parenting, and changing career paths that deepened my understanding of identity, resilience, and life transitions. I especially understand how overwhelming it can feel to hold multiple roles and expectations at once, and how important it is to feel seen without judgment. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to be your steady cheerleader and grounded support—helping you reconnect with your strengths, make sense of your experiences, and move toward healing with clarity, confidence, and self-compassion.

I have worked with an array of different populations prior to becoming a therapist as I was actively involved with community health organizations, psychiatric hospitals, foster care facilities, domestic violence group homes, adult day care facilities, and crisis and text lines. Through this array of different experiences, I was given the opportunity to explore a wide array of populations and mental health disorders. I personally lost my Mother and brother to suicide and this has given me further insight into the reality of mental health situations and survival.

Hi, I’m Melissa — deeply devoted social justice warrior and mental health advocate. I believe we are already whole, even in the mess, and that therapy isn’t about fixing or taking parts of you away — it’s about curiosity, self-acceptance, and learning how to move through life with authenticity and self-compassion.
I bring both lived experience and heart into the therapy space, especially for those who’ve spent a lifetime feeling “too much,” “not enough,” or out of place. Together, we make room for all your parts, get curious about your inner world, and figure out ways of living that actually work for you.
I show up with warmth, humor, and deep care, and I love helping people reconnect with their own magic, trust themselves more fully, and create lives that feel more spacious, aligned, and truly theirs. You don’t need to be fixed — you get to be understood.
Whatever you’re facing in life, you don’t have to face it alone. I will be your expert guide and partner both in tackling practical concerns and in delving into the depths of the issues you’re confronting.
Whether you're dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, identity or relationship issues, I can help you get to the heart of the issue and move past the places where you feel stuck. You have strength and resources within yourself that you may not fully recognize. Together we can tap into those to support your healing and growth.
I bring a culturally responsive lens to my practice, recognizing the profound impact of personal identity and lived experiences. My work focuses on helping couples communicate, addictions, men's issues, helping you develop self-love, improve communication, overcome anxiety and depression, and healing from past wounds. My practice is built on the belief that everyone possesses the capacity for meaningful change. I view therapy as a truly collaborative, reciprocal, and flexible alliance. My goal is to provide a steady, supportive space. Having navigated multiple career journeys, I experienced the challenges and rewards of professionally starting over. I help clients re-author their personal narratives to find lasting growth and purpose. I am grateful to be part of a healing profession that promotes self-awareness, self-acceptance, and personal growth.
I work with adult women navigating anxiety, depression, coping skills, work stress, life transitions, self-esteem, chronic health issues, spirituality, college or student life phases, peer relationships, dating, long-term romantic partnerships, and marriage.
