If you’re a client who works with me, you can trust that you have a therapist with the highest level of education and training (B.A from Princeton; Ph.D. from UCLA), extensive experience working with individuals and couples, and a record of professional accomplishment (University Professor, Director of a Graduate Program in Counseling, author of multiple books and articles in the areas of Clinical Psychology and Human Development.) In addition to my work in psychology, I have a background in the creative arts as a Grammy award-winning songwriter and a published novelist. Because of this added dimension, some of my clients have welcomed suggestions for excellent stories, novels, movies, or television shows that depict characters who face similar challenges to their own and our discussions of these works and characters have provided these clients with another valuable source of understanding and growth. On a personal note, I grew up on the East Coast before relocating to California and I’m the father of two daughters.

I have been playing and coaching basketball for years and, in the process, developed a passion for psychology and philosophy. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. I have completed one year of a master’s program with a focus on sports psychology. I received my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I wanted to improve my communication, relate better to the people and clients I was working with, understand myself better, and adequately face personal issues and past traumatic events. I consequently developed an interest in mental health, emotional resilience, and intricate family dynamics that shape us as individuals. I became a believer that with the proper support and resources, people could find solutions and become active in authoring preferred narratives. Resourcefulness exists in all people. Additionally, I believe clients are best understood if we take time to reflect on relevant cultural and dominant societal factors to ensure treatment objectives and interventions are consistent with the attitudes and behaviors distinctive of a range of multicultural perspectives and backgrounds.

Hi! I'm Evan and I'm a licensed therapist (LMFT) based in California. I believe that every person has unique strengths and inner resources that can be harnessed to overcome challenges and foster meaningful personal growth. My role as your therapist is to help you recognize those strengths, clarify what truly matters to you, and guide you in developing the tools and strategies you need to move forward with confidence. In our sessions, we’ll collaborate to identify your goals and create practical, actionable solutions tailored to your specific needs — whether you’re navigating stress, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, life transitions, or simply seeking a greater sense of balance and fulfillment. Together, we’ll focus on uncovering what’s working, building on your resilience, and creating a roadmap for positive change. My therapeutic approach is rooted in solution-focused therapy and positive psychology, integrating a strengths-based perspective to help you gain insight, reframe unhelpful patterns, and develop a mindset that supports growth and well-being. I also draw on evidence-based techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) when helpful, allowing us to challenge limiting beliefs and replace them with more empowering thoughts and behaviors. My aim is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental, and encouraging environment where you feel truly understood, motivated, and ready to take charge of your life. I see therapy as a collaborative process — one where we work side by side to help you create meaningful, lasting change. If you’re ready to take the next step, let’s work together to unlock your potential and build a life that feels purposeful, balanced, and fulfilling.

Hello there, my name is Jackie. I’d like to start by saying it brings me great joy that you are here making time for yourself! Allow me to ask, what brought you here today? Is it fears…traumas… distractions… hardships…loss… endless worries… striving for something meaningful? If you’re finding it hard to answer, “where do I go from here?,” then arriving at this thought is exactly where you need to be to make the decision to create your own path . As you reach this crossroads I offer you tools to support you in bringing to light the barriers that prevent you from uncovering your full potential. I invite you to show up for yourself as you journey through the mountains and valley’s that are the wonders of your life.

Hi there, I'm Gut (Goot)! Thanks for looking at my profile, "the journey of 1000 miles begins with one step". I am a Veteran looking to assist others with their own "1000" mile journey. My approach I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to assist individuals on their perspective journeys. I utilize Solution Focused Brief Therapy primarily with couples. My focus I have found that my style and approach work well with individuals who prefer a straightforward, assertive approach. My communication style is assertive, direct, with a curious undertone to solicit perspective. My journey in mental healthcare I wanted to assist with preventing Veteran suicides. My goals for you My goal is not that of a pastor; I do not want you to keep coming back, but to take what we have learned and continue the journey.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Couples Counseling?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Couples Counseling, is filtering therapists in California that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
