I have a lot of life experience and had several careers before becoming a therapist, and I have traveled extensively. There isn't much I haven't seen or at least heard about. I try to provide a calm, nonjudgmental atmosphere for clients so they can feel free to say whatever is on their mind. Believe me when I say that if you've done a thing or thought about it, someone else has too. You are not alone.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session is usually taken up with my standard intake process: questions about your goals and expectations for therapy, questionnaires to assess your level of depression or anxiety, your background, and any expectations you might have about the process. You're also free to ask me any questions you might have.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I am a proponent of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is based on learning to accept what you can and cannot control, recognizing and reframing unhelpful thought patterns, and living a life that fulfills your wishes and values. When appropriate, I also use mindfulness techniques and encourage clients to meditate as a way of remaining in the present moment rather than letting your thoughts and fears hijack your mind and intensify anxiety. I find that people often experience tremendous relief when they learn how to change their perspective on life and accept that there can be many ways of approaching a situation.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

You're the smart one, the competent one, the one who takes care of everything. Everyone else turns to you when there's a job to be done, a deadline to be met, a child or family member who needs help. But who takes care of you? I work with smart, accomplished people who struggle with perfectionism and "impostor syndrome:" that feeling that no matter how hard you work and how much you achieve, it's never enough. You struggle with that voice in your head telling you you've got to do more, work harder, be better. And meanwhile, your own needs get pushed to the side. Imagine what life would be like if you could silence that critical voice. Imagine what it would be like if you could let yourself enjoy your accomplishments and being with the people you love, instead of dwelling on the (usually imaginary) ways in which you don't measure up. I can help you get there. If you'd like to learn how, I hope you'll reach out.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I like this modality because it helps clients think about their issues in a different way and empowers them to make changes that might otherwise feel scary or overwhelming.
