Hey there! If your negative thought loops or emotions have impacted your life in some way, I'm here to remind you that you're certainly not alone - you're human. I view therapy as a chance to improve the thinking patterns that cause you to feel anxious or depressed, and keep you down for longer than feels healthy. My aim is to help confront these problem areas and then construct goals that ultimately bring about healthy change!

As a client of mine, you should expect a learning and judgment free space. A space where you will be understandably hesitant yet free and understood. I've dedicated my career to becoming a better therapist for my clients by learning about other cultures and aspects of life that contribute to our mental health. In our work together, I aim to provide the best approaches to reach your goals and ultimately leave feeling complete and refreshed. With my years of experience, I have helped many clients and couples understand themselves in different ways than they started and make positive changes that they hoped for. Understanding how difficult it is to be open and vulnerable, it is especially important for me to be patient and increase my abilities with engagement. I strive for understanding, respect and authenticity in all sessions and with all clients.

Hello, Thank you for reviewing my profile. Briefly; I am Licensed Naturopathic Doctor, a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor I work with adult professional women dealing with anxiety, depression, past unresolved trauma, grief, stress and relationship issues. My philosophy is that life is not meant to live alone and in isolation. We need positive human beings to 'see' us and bear witness to our lives in order for us to become fully human. We need meaningful experiences to help us navigate this journey called life. My training as a Naturopathic Doctor affords me a lens to also consider and integrate your physical health, diet & lifestyle practices for your overall well-being. So, if you are tired of being tired, anxious, sad, depressed and you're just going through the motions, feeling stuck in a life that drains you; AND you are willing to do the work to get well, then you need skilled, compassionate support to get you unstuck and get your life back on track to experience purposeful living. It is here where our paths intersect. It is my intention that you to "prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers" 3 John 2.

I've supervised other therapists and taught clinical social work practice to graduate students for over 9 years. In 2018, while teaching as an adjust instructor in the social work department of Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, FL, I started my private practice as an independent contractor for a psychiatric practice. Since then I moved back to the Albany, NY area and branched out to see clients privately who live in NY as well as in Florida. I currently am licensed in NY, FL and North Carolina and can see clients that live in or migrate throughout the year among those three states.

My goal is to empower my clients to overcome these challenges and improve their overall well-being. To achieve this, I utilize a combination of evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and an eclectic approach that takes into account each clients unique circumstances and needs. Ideally, therapy has been shown to have the best outcomes when you feel like your therapist gets you. Therapy is a relationship, rather than a set of instructions. My approach is warm, interactive, practical, and empathic, and I draw from relational, feminist, trauma-informed, anti-racist treatment models. I believe in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship, along with helping you contextualize your life experiences, honoring your expertise in your own life. I specialize in working with those that are struggling with issues around depression, immigrant identity trauma/issues, mood disorders, and family violence. I am also sex work friendly. I’m Dan—a dedicated, down-to-earth therapist with a background that gives me deep empathy for those who’ve experienced trauma and adversity. My years in the military and emergency response taught me how resilient people can be, even in their darkest moments. I help clients process what they've been through and reconnect with a sense of meaning and control in their lives. Healing isn’t a straight line—but you don’t have to walk it alone.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by New York rather than a city like New York City?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across New York from Buffalo to Rochester! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in New York.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Trauma and PTSD?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Trauma and PTSD, is filtering therapists in New York that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
