New to Grow
Hi, I'm Maria and I've been a therapist for 6 years. I have seen a variety of clients from different backgrounds and with presenting problems. I am also a trauma specialist and work most with individuals with inter-generational trauma. I am also multi-culturally competent and a LGBT+ ally. I will do my best to tailor a treatment plan to your needs and personality.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session will be a deep dive (as long as you're comfortable!) about themselves. It is not how a typical therapy session will go but it's important to understand our starting line.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I have work extensively in different settings from the emergency room to private practice and everything in between. I'm calm in a crisis and will be a steady point for you to reset.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
My clients enjoy an environment surrounded with warmth and humor. They thrive on having a comfortable and safe space to understand more about themselves and grow.
EMDR
When working with trauma, EMDR is the modality that I utilize with most patients. I tend to be more conservative with this approach and spend some time at the start of treatment walking you through coping skills that can help with emotional dysregulation and other symptoms. I want you to feel comfortable recognizing the impacts of trauma in your life, how emotions affect you and coping skills to help bring yourself back to a comfortable state. Occasionally, if needed, we include parts work from Internal Family Systems to help with understanding the role that trauma plays in your inner workings and how processing through it.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral is a modality that I use frequently especially at the start to help clients with building an understanding how their thoughts influence their feelings and actions. We will work together to help you recognize negative thought patterns and help with restructuring them.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
I believe that culture is an important part of what shapes you and how your world view develops. I work extensively with immigrants and 1st/2nd generation Americans to help them work through the cultural impact on their identities.
