Hey there! If your negative thought loops or emotions have impacted your life in some way, I'm here to remind you that you're certainly not alone - you're human. I view therapy as a chance to improve the thinking patterns that cause you to feel anxious or depressed, and keep you down for longer than feels healthy. My aim is to help confront these problem areas and then construct goals that ultimately bring about healthy change!

I work remotely with clients in New York, New Jersey & North Carolina. Oftentimes, even the strongest and most resilient need a helping hand. If you're feeling unhappy, unfulfilled, angry, sad or simply feeling unlike yourself, maybe it's time you take the hand of someone else to help get you back to feeling like yourself again. Therapy can be intimidating, time consuming and even scary however I promise it is the best investment you can ever make in yourself.

My approach is compassionate, practical, and supportive. I focus on meeting you where you are and working together to untangle what feels overwhelming, while giving you tools that create real change. Therapy with me is not about quick fixes but about building a life that feels balanced, meaningful, and authentic. I also understand the importance of creativity and personal expression. Good Day. I'm Karen. Learning how to cope with change can be difficult. Are there times where you feel as if friends and family misunderstand you? Do you find yourself struggling with change making it hard to adapt to new environments? If so, I am here to help! I have worked in social services and mental health for over 10 years. As a Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor for over 7 years, I have collaborated with agencies and organizations within New York City area to address the needs of individuals and families; including those who are struggling to heal from the impact of anxiety, depression and various addictions that can cause damage to the lives of both young people and adults alike. When collaborating with an individual, I provide support no matter your socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other personal backgrounds. I am particularly sensitive to clients facing moments of transition, such as stress, loss, academic issues, employee issues, coping skills, marriage and family conflict; when the delicate balance can seem to tremble, and symptoms of anxiety, depression, and self-doubt can emerge.

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship dynamics, or major life transitions, I provide a compassionate and supportive space where you can explore emotions, build coping skills, and create lasting change. I understand that feeling stuck or overwhelmed can be frustrating, and sometimes, you may not even know where to begin. That’s where I come in. My approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered techniques, mindfulness, and strength-based modalities, allowing me to tailor therapy to your unique needs and goals. Beyond techniques and strategies, I believe in the power of connection. Therapy is not just about working through struggles—it’s about feeling heard, validated, and supported. My mission is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings while gaining insight into your journey. I am passionate about working with women, particularly women of color, as I deeply understand the importance of cultural identity and lived experiences in the healing process.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by New York rather than a city like New York City?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across New York from Buffalo to Rochester! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in New York.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Anger Management?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Anger Management, is filtering therapists in New York that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
