Hi, I’m Anna, a Licensed Therapist in New York. If you’re feeling anxious, drained, or like you’re carrying a lot on your own, you don’t have to do it alone. I believe healing begins when we feel genuinely seen. In our work together, I offer a calm, supportive space where you can slow down, make sense of your emotional and nervous system responses, and build practical coping skills that fit your life. My style is collaborative, focused on emotional regulation, self-awareness, and strengthening self-confidence over time. I work with clients from diverse backgrounds, respect each person’s values and beliefs, and provide therapy in both Mandarin and English.
I am a master’s level licensed clinical mental health counselor (LMHC), (LPC) and credentialed SUD Counselor (CASAC-A) (CADC II) with training and expertise in both Cognitive Behavior Therapy as well as psychodynamic treatment. I work with young adults and adults and have expertise in treating patients with depression, anxiety, PTSD, compulsive, addictive behaviors and domestic violence. I have specialized training in various evidence-based treatments for trauma such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I hope to help patients learn effective ways to cope with stress, manage difficult emotions and communicate well with others.
We have all acquired ways of coping that get in the way of our development, and manifest as emotional pain, such as anxiety and depression. I work with clients to identify and reduce these painful symptoms. Clients are then freer to use their energy in pursuit of their goals. I work with young, midlife, and older adults. I develop a safe and collaborative relationship with clients. In that context, I do short and long-term psychotherapy and train clients to use specific protocols to modify symptoms that are in the way of personal and professional functioning. My approach provides support, guidance, and education to help you become the best version of yourself and work towards achieving your goals. I consider it an honor to work alongside you, and I look forward to meeting you soon.
With seven years of experience as a therapist, I prioritize connecting with clients by actively listening to their stories and fostering a safe, non-judgmental, and validating environment through empathy and consistent communication. Having faced various life challenges, including family, marriage, divorce, and health concerns, I empathize deeply with clients’ experiences. Hi — I’m Sonjia Smith, LMFT, a Licensed Marriage and Family I’m Sonjia Smith, LMFT, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Specialized Crisis Counselor, and the founder of Therapy with Sonjia (formerly Couples Therapy with Sonjia).
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, my passion for mental health is deeply personal. As an African American, Christian, Queer Cisgender Woman, I bring a lived, compassionate perspective to my work — creating a space where high-achieving women of all backgrounds feel seen, supported, and deeply understood.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with individuals, couples, and families navigating complex relationship and emotional challenges. But over time, I noticed a pattern: so many successful, ambitious men and women quietly carrying invisible wounds — the trauma, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and exhaustion that often go unnoticed beneath high achievement.
That’s where my heart led me.
Now, my work is centered on helping men and women heal from childhood and relational trauma, release survival patterns that no longer serve them, and reconnect with the versions of themselves they’ve longed to be. I specialize in supporting those dealing with:
• Attachment wounds
• People-pleasing and boundary struggles
• Anxiety, anger, and emotional reactivity
• Histories of intimate partner violence
• Exhaustion from constantly holding it all together
My name is Tatiana, and I’m glad you’ve taken this brave step toward support. Reaching out for therapy can feel vulnerable, and it’s normal to feel anxious or unsure in the beginning. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with experience working with a diverse range of clients, including those navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, and life transitions. I take a client-centered approach, believing therapy should focus on what feels most important and comfortable for you. I tailor each session to your unique needs and goals.
I integrate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness. CBT helps identify and challenge unhelpful or intrusive thoughts, allowing for healthier, more balanced thinking—especially helpful for anxiety. A solution-focused approach emphasizes strengths and views challenges as manageable and solvable. When working with substance use concerns, I utilize motivational interviewing to foster motivation, insight, and meaningful change. Mindfulness techniques support grounding, present-moment awareness, and relaxation.
Together, we will build coping skills, increase self-awareness, and strengthen your ability to manage life’s challenges. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I am here to support you as you work toward emotional balance, self-confidence, and a more fulfilling life.
Welcome! Thank you for considering working together with me to reach your goals.
I work with issues related to depression, anxiety, goals, interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, boundaries, stress, anger, conflict, and philosophical/spiritual issues.
I see clients of all orientations and cultural/ethnic backrounds. I am respectful of all religious traditions as well as secular and philosophical traditions.
I work with individuals, couples, families and children/teens.
My aproach to therapy is:
Direct
Respectful
Non-judgmental
Solution-focused
Empowering
Positive
In the short term you should feel better going out than you did coming in.
Over the long term, you should feel more empowered, clearer, more self-supporting, more compassionate with yourself and more skilled with others.
I look forward to working together with you!
Sincerely,
Miriam Mendelson, LMHC, PhD

Together, we’ll identify what’s no longer serving you and create a plan that feels manageable and aligned with your values. Whether we’re working to reduce anxiety, strengthen boundaries, improve emotional regulation, or heal from past experiences, I approach your growth with compassion, curiosity, and respect.
Therapy with me is both reflective and practical. You’ll gain insight into your patterns, but you’ll also learn real skills—tools you can use in your everyday life to feel more grounded, more in control, and more connected to yourself.
My hope is that through our work, you discover your own resilience, rebuild trust in yourself, and feel empowered to create the life you truly want. You don’t have to do this alone. I’m here to help you every step of the way.
I am a seasoned therapist who believes that real change happens in the space where insight meets emotional safety. I bring depth, honesty, and steadiness into the room, helping people understand the patterns that shape their relationships, self-worth, and responses to stress and loss. My approach integrates psychodynamic understanding, interpersonal awareness, and practical tools so that insight does not remain abstract but translates into meaningful change. I offer a grounded, non-judgmental presence where difficult emotions can be explored without shame, and I work collaboratively with clients to strengthen autonomy, clarity, and resilience. My goal is not simply symptom relief, but helping you build a more integrated and authentic sense of self.
