Hello. I'm Catherine. I'm a Generalized Practice Clinician with over 14 years in the field of Clinical Social Work. While I've worked in a variety of settings, the majority of my professional career was spent in Community Mental Health. For the past 3 years, I've focused solely on Psychotherapy and truly love this side of Social Work. Outside of work, I'm passionate about travel, cats, the environment, and cooking. Fun fact- I'm a boarding school alumna.
In our first session, we will discuss expectations for treatment and map out a plan to meet your goals. We'll review your strengths and previous obstacles to change and develop a treatment plan to address them. We'll review cadence of sessions, means of HIPAA compliant communication, the role of supplemental outside exercises / homework (if desired), and set time aside for any questions or concerns.
My approach is Client centered and you can expect unconditional positive regard and a safe, judgement-free space. If you're still reading, I hope to hear from you. In our work together, you will bring yourself, exactly as you are, and I will encourage you to take what you like and leave what you don't! Let's figure this out together.
Sometimes on this journey of life, we get in our own way and feel motivated to change only when things get hairy! This can translate into a mindset or habit that no longer serves us. Does it seem like no matter how hard you try, there's a pendulum swinging between progress and stagnancy? Maybe you excel in one area of life but feel like you're far behind in another. Maybe there are personal goals that seem unobtainable due to negative core beliefs about Self. I help Clients get to the other side of the progress they want to see. Whether you're in the pre-contemplative or action phase of change, I provide guidance and support while holding you accountable to your goals. I have worked extensively with individuals who've experienced varying levels of Depression, Anxiety, Grief, Substance Dependence, Self Identity issues, Impostor Syndrome, and more. I draw from different schools of thought to tailor my sessions and meet the individual needs of each Client.
I’ve been using CBT in my practice for the past two years. It’s helped many clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety depression. It is particularly helpful in better understanding negative self talk and harmful core beliefs. We’ll use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a less anxious and less stuck.
