Hello, thank you for learning more about me and how we might work together toward your goals. I am a licensed therapist (LCSW) in New York City. My approach to working with clients is strength-based. No matter what you have been through, you are resilient. I work with you to discover your truth and your authenticity within you. While my background is in trauma-informed care, I apply treatment modalities such as Cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT) CBT, Dialectic behavior therapy, DBT and Talk Therapy. I adapt most of my methods to individual needs. I am a parent and an African American woman with a deep understanding of the intersectionality of race, culture, and class. I approach my work with an anti-oppressive and social justice lens with a deeper understanding of systems of oppression as it relates to race and gender, and sexuality. I always approach diversity in the room as a gift with significant room for the clients to teach me. I am a curious person and respect the uniqueness of every human being’s background.
We will start by discussing your unique story. What do you want to accomplish in therapy, and why now? From there, I will guide you through each session.
I received intensive training in trauma-informed care at the Silberman School of Social Work and received 18 credit hours for a postgraduate certificate in communication through Theatre Arts at NYU. I also received supervision and training in private practice at Resilience Lab. I continue exposing myself to the latest modalities for better care. I have lived experiences that inform me and allow me to understand the lived experiences of my clients. I have done the cathartic work in my personal life to achieve the work-life balance my clients deserve.
I am most comfortable working with adult women and men who are artists or former artists experiencing work-related stress or trauma-form experiences from the past. I love working with all individuals, trying to navigate dating life and married individuals searching for deeper meaning in their relationships. Young adults, 21 through 40 years of age, who are experiencing anxiety or mood disorders. Those older adults experiencing transitions from childhood to adulthood. I am also very comfortable working with women who are experiencing friction in their relationships with their domestic partners.
My approach working with clients is strength-based because I believe in you. No matter what you have been through, you are a resilient human being. I work with you to explore your truth and your authentic self. While my background is trauma-informed care; I apply treatment modalities such as Cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT) CBT, Dialectic behavior therapy, DBT as well as Narrative Therapy to clients as appropriate. Most methods that I use can be adapted to the individuals as needed. I am a parent; an African American woman with a deep understanding of the intersectionality of race, culture, and class. I approach my work with an anti-oppressive and social justice lens with a deeper understanding of systems of oppression as it relates to race and gender and sexuality.
Therapy is where the sacred space of self-awareness and personal truth is free to exist. In the Therapeutic relationship, I will sit with you and allow space for quiet. I will see you and will not judge your choices, but will serve to guide you into new possibilities; for a renewed vision for oneself. Whether it be an articles that strengthens our discussions, a poem or quote from a great movie or book; I will, from time to time, give you strategies to rehearse new skills.
I am there to listen and participate with you in a way that is meaningful for you. You are the lead in your own story. I will talk with you when you are complete with your thoughts and will only interrupt when it will be helpful to you in your growth.
