I'm Karen, and I'm here to help support your journey to wellness. I hold a PhD in Counseling, and I am licensed in both Florida (LMHC) and Maryland (LCPC). I've worked with clients in counseling and have trained counseling graduate students for over 20 years. Early in my career, I specialized in helping clients work through interpersonal trauma, such as sexual abuse and physical abuse. Since then, I have widened my scope of practice to more general needs, such as anxiety and depression, but always with an awareness of trauma-informed practice when applicable. I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I believe there is always room for hope and optimism, and that compassion, empathy, and understanding bring us greater fulfillment in our lives. I've been trained in various modalities, and I have been doing agency work for the past 12 years and continue to work full-time. Hi! I was born in Puerto Rico, but I have been living in the United States since 1990. I graduated with my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from D’Youville College in Buffalo NY, then with my Master in Social Work at the University at Buffalo. I started my career as a Bi-Lingual Dual Disorder therapist at an outpatient agency in Buffalo NY. Moving to Florida in 2014, I worked with individuals who have been diagnosed with alcohol and/or substance misuse who have been linked with the court system, as well as working with children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced complex trauma. I have experience in working as a program manager providing guidance and clinical direction to other therapists, as well as providing therapeutic services to individuals within the LGBTQAI+ community and those who have been impacted by an HIV diagnosis. Throughout my career I have been able to gain knowledge on different types of diagnoses and resources in order to assist in improving individuals overall well-being in a holistic way.
