I think it is important for a therapist to be able to implement multiple approaches to the therapy process in order to best serve a client. I do predominantly utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed approaches, but I may modify the approach to best meet your needs and goals. My main focus is helping you make progress and meet your identified goals. I initially was drawn to being a therapist because I wanted to help others meet life's challenges and understand that sometimes we need a partner/support on that journey. I have worked with many different populations over the course of my career, including children, teens, adults, and seniors. Additionally, I have experience working in many different settings, including community mental health, inpatient mental health units, juvenile justice, nursing homes, and adult corrections. I believe these varied experiences and populations have helped to make me a well-rounded therapist.
The first therapy session is our first step in building the therapy relationship. It will largely focus on providing me the opportunity to learn more about you, your history, and your initial thoughts on treatment goals. You may be excited or may be nervous about beginning therapy, and all of this is completely normal.
Relationship and communication are so important in therapy, and I focus on maintaining open communication to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment.
Therapy is a partnership. I have the training and the knowledge, but you are the expert on you! I'll help you develop and prioritize individualized, achievable goals. Throughout our work together, we will periodically review your goals and progress on them and modify them as needed. I will be here to support you in your journey and help you learn tools and process any thoughts/feelings that develop. I work with adolescents, adults, and seniors who are experiencing mood difficulties such as depression or anxiety, have a trauma history, or are working through changes in their life. I will work collaboratively with you to develop a plan and goals that will allow you to achieve them and live a more fulfilled life.
