Alyssa Suarez
Alyssa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker & Therapist. She studied Behavioral Sciences in undergrad where she fell in love with learning about why people behave the way they do. She went on to receive her master’s degree in Clinical Social Work at The University of Houston. Alyssa trained in acute mental healthcare, where she worked with patients to address a critical moment of their mental health in inpatient psychiatric care. From there she moved to outpatient care & individual therapy where she enjoys working with clients on meeting their long term goals & processing lingering issues that hold them back from reaching their full potential. Alyssa understands that it’s not the happy moments in life that bring people to therapy, but she firmly believes that true strength comes from rebuilding.
First session
The first session is really about getting to know each other and creating a space where you feel comfortable being yourself.! We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you hope to get out of the process. You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming in, and you won’t be expected to share anything you’re not ready to share. My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, understood, and with a clearer sense of how we can work together moving forward!
Strengths
I bring a warm, nonjudgmental, and curious approach to therapy. I want my clients to feel genuinely understood while also feeling supported in making meaningful changes. I take the time to understand not only what someone is experiencing, but also the patterns, experiences, and beliefs that may be contributing to it. My approach is collaborative and individualized—I don’t believe therapy should be one-size-fits-all. I combine clinical knowledge with practical tools and honest conversations to help clients better understand themselves, work through what’s holding them back, and feel more confident navigating life. Most importantly, I strive to create a space where clients can be open, imperfect, and fully themselves without fear of judgment.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is ready to better understand themselves and make meaningful changes in their life, even if they’re not quite sure where to start. I enjoy working with clients who may feel stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected from themselves, or weighed down by past experiences and patterns that are difficult to break. You don’t have to come to therapy with a clear goal or a perfect understanding of what’s wrong. Sometimes the goal is simply to feel more like yourself again. Wherever you are in that process, I’m here to help you better understand what’s happening, identify what you need, and work toward a life that feels more aligned and fulfilling.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) focuses on building mental flexibility—learning how to make space for difficult emotions, reduce the struggle with unwanted thoughts, and take meaningful action toward the things that matter most to you. I love that ACT emphasizes self-compassion, mindfulness, and creating a life guided by your values rather than fear or avoidance.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) focuses on building skills to better manage intense emotions, improve relationships, tolerate distress, and respond to challenges with greater awareness and balance. I find that using DBT-informed strategies helps clients learn practical tools for emotional regulation, mindfulness, communication, and navigating difficult moments more effectively.
