My name is Normarie Torres-García and I completed my PhD in Clinical Psychology, from the Ponce Health Sciences University in Puerto Rico, and my Postdoctoral Fellowship in Integrated Behavioral Health in Primary Care in The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. I have a strong background in delivering culturally sensitive services within a patient-centered model and I maintain a strong interest in working within other models of evidence-based interventions and health-care integration.

Culture shock became my reality and one that would eventually lead me to “Severe anxiety.” Even with a very strong family support system, I felt alone and trapped by my own inner fears and self-defeating thoughts. Constant worry and fear of being bullied by my peers became my everyday experience. Through all these obstacles, I was able to process my feelings and experiences with my faith in Jesus Christ, supportive family, and a few good friends. To this extent, I have come to recognize the benefits of a strong support system and the need for social and relational connection.
