Hi! My name is Luella, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Florida. I received my Masters degree at Barry University, specializing in Mental Health Counseling, Marriage, Couples and Family Counseling and Therapy. I specialize in helping individuals overcome challenges like depression, anxiety, ADHD, and life transitions. With a focus on women and men balancing personal and professional lives, I provide practical tools and emotional support to empower my clients to achieve a balanced and fulfilling life.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In their first session with me, clients can expect a warm, welcoming environment where they feel heard and understood. We will discuss their current challenges, personal history, and goals for therapy. I will actively listen, validate their feelings, and start developing a personalized plan to address their unique needs. This session sets the foundation for our work together, ensuring clients feel supported and empowered from the very beginning.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my greatest strengths as a provider are my empathetic listening skills, my ability to create a safe and non-judgmental space for clients, and my practical approach to therapy. I am dedicated to understanding each client's unique experiences and challenges, and I use personalized strategies and tools to empower them. My commitment to continuous learning and adapting to the latest therapeutic techniques also ensures that I provide the best possible care for my clients.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

My experience with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has been life-changing for both me and my clients. In my practice, I use ACT to help people accept their thoughts and feelings instead of fighting against them. I use mindfulness exercises, values clarification, and cognitive defusion strategies to guide clients in accepting their internal experiences and committing to actions that align with their values. For example, I use a technique called "Leaves on a Stream," where clients visualize their thoughts floating away on leaves, helping them see their thoughts without getting stuck in them. By focusing on what truly matters to them, I help clients use their values as a guide for their actions, promoting long-term growth and fulfillment.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

My experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been incredibly rewarding for both me and my clients. In my practice, I use CBT to help people understand and change the patterns of thinking and behavior that are causing them problems. Through techniques like identifying negative thoughts, challenging irrational beliefs, and practicing new behaviors, I guide clients in recognizing how their thoughts affect their feelings and actions. For example, I often use the automatic thoughts technique, where clients learn to catch their immediate negative thoughts in the moment and then work with me to challenge and reframe them. By focusing on practical strategies and skills, CBT helps clients take control of their mental health and make meaningful changes in their lives. My goal is to empower clients to overcome their challenges, improve their emotional well-being, and achieve their personal goals.

Christian Counseling

My experience with Christian counseling has been incredibly fulfilling because it lets me combine my faith with psychology to help people with their problems. In my practice, I use Bible verses, prayer, and faith-based techniques to offer hope and strength through a closer relationship with God. I guide clients to understand and cope with their issues by aligning their lives with Christian values. This includes using biblical truths to reframe negative thoughts and emphasizing forgiveness and grace. My goal is to help clients grow spiritually, heal emotionally, and live meaningful lives that reflect their faith and values.

Eclectic

An eclectic approach in therapy means using a mix of different methods from various therapeutic styles to best meet each client's unique needs. In my practice, I combine techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to change negative thoughts, mindfulness practices from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to stay present, and person-centered principles to ensure clients feel heard and understood. This flexible approach allows me to tailor the therapy to each person, making it more effective and holistic.
