“In my early professional years I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for their own personal growth?” ― Carl R. Rogers I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who provides compassionate, trauma-informed therapy for adolescents and adults. My practice focuses on helping clients navigate trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the impact of difficult or overwhelming experiences. I’m a warm, down-to-earth therapist with more than 25 years of experience helping people navigate anxiety, trauma, relationships, grief, career and life transitions, and those seasons when life simply doesn’t look the way you thought it would. My approach is compassionate, practical, solution-focused, and collaborative. I’ll listen carefully and create a space where you can be completely yourself—but I’ll also ask thoughtful questions, offer honest feedback, help you recognize patterns, and give you practical tools you can actually use outside of therapy. Life experience has shaped me just as much as education and professional training. I’ve been married to my HS sweetheart for more than four decades, raised three children, experienced loss and grief, navigated career changes, family challenges, parenting, marriage, aging, and the many unexpected chapters that come with building a life alongside the people you love. Those experiences have given me a deep appreciation for resilience, relationships, humor, and the fact that none of us gets through life without a few scars and stories! My work is especially meaningful with adults and couples navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, parenting, first responder or military life, grief, major transitions, and questions about identity or purpose. I enjoy working with people who may appear capable and successful on the outside while privately feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck, or exhausted from holding everything together. My therapy is holistic and individualized. Depending on what fits you, we may incorporate evidence-based approaches alongside mindfulness, humor, nature, animals, relationships, meaning and purpose, and faith or spirituality if that's valued. I believe therapy should help you understand where you’ve been without keeping you there. Together, we’ll focus on healing what hurts, strengthening what already works, and helping you intentionally build a life and relationships that feel authentic, meaningful, and with any luck a little lighter.

Life is tough, and starting therapy is a big step- I'm glad you're here! I view therapy as a safe, nonjudgmental space where you learn more about yourself and what you want. As your therapist, I'll help you identify patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may be holding you back. We'll work together on a plan that focuses on what matters most to you. My ultimate goal is to give my clients the tools they need to live their best lives and be the best version of themselves possible. It's natural to want to know about a potential therapist, so here's some info about me and my experience that will help you determine if we'd be a good fit: I have 15 years of clinical social work experience, much of it in hospital and crisis settings. I really enjoy learning and staying up to date with the latest advances in clinical practice, and I earned my doctorate in social work in 2023. I work best with those struggling with mood disorders, anxiety, and depression. I enjoy working with people to navigate life's many stressors, including employment and relationship issues. Additionally, I am an LBGTQ+ and neurodiverse-affirming therapist with extensive training and expertise in these areas. My approach is warm, supportive, and collaborative—I aim to create a space where you feel truly heard and supported. I'll check in frequently to make sure you're getting what you need out of therapy. I like sessions to be structured enough that they feel productive, while allowing space to discuss the topics most important to you in the moment.

Therapy can be very intimidating, especially if you are not aware of the expectations or if you don’t feel safe talking to your chosen provider. My experiences as a counselor have allowed me to work with those that struggle with low self-esteem, anxiety, difficulty with life transitions, and uncertainty about their identity or if they belong. Therapy should seek to address the roots of whatever negative thoughts or beliefs contribute to these ongoing issues, and I am here to help you uncover those roots so that you can achieve healing. If you are tired of wrestling with feelings of not being good enough and are ready to show kindness to yourself, I would love to help you reach that point. We will work together to create goals that are realistic, manageable, and appropriate for your situation. Then, we will work at your pace to see those desires become reality.

My identity and therapy practice are highly intertwined as I always say "I am a human before I am a therapist". Yes I went to college and got a big degree but my general desire for my clients is for them to feel like they are sitting with an authentic human who has "been there before". I moved from my home in Eastern KY Appalachia to Louisville in 2019. Having this experience has shown me that there ain't much difference in the suffering people have in the country and the city. I believe that our current society and systems all too often force people into hard spots and then tell them to pull themselves up and keep it pushing. My goal in therapy is to slow things down to normalize for you that we are not working on "what's wrong with you" but instead "what happened to you". This allows you to feel safe enough with me to share the parts of your life/mental that even you don't want to address. That is when you start healing. Cause once you feel seen and supported, you feel empowered enough to figure out how YOU want to live (not how you have been told to). I describe this whole process as you are driving the car and I am riding "shot gun" just pointing things out and making suggestions! I find that my unconditional acceptance of clients, use of real world humor/experiences, and gently pushing for change allows us to start building the skills and strategies you need to live in this world as an authentic you. Another favorite saying of mine is "it's your world my guy I'm just living in it"!

I want to continue this journey by providing private individual therapy services. I seek to provide compassionate, client-centered counseling to individuals and families in communities. I seek to help individuals and families grow strong roots by encouraging clients to explore and utilize resources in their communities including family, friends, and faith-based services. Sometimes it feels like the actual apocalypse is just around the corner. We are bombarded with terrible headline after terrible headline. Inflation is making it harder to pay the bills, let alone have fun, or reach our dreams. With so much going on in the world, it’s no wonder that there are greater rates of anxiety and depression! In the midst of it all, you might be trying to figure out who you are, what you want from life, how to have that honest conversation with your friend, setting boundaries with a parent, whether to switch jobs, learning to be more comfortable in your skin, etc. It’s a lot to manage. I can help. I am a licensed psychologist and consider myself a generalist with a wide variety of clinical interests including issues related to family of origin, self esteem, identity development, issues related to oppression and marginalized identities, depression, anxiety, stress, and interpersonal relationships.

Hello and welcome! I’m Michelle, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with more than 20 years of experience working in the field of behavioral health. I was drawn to counseling by a curiosity about human behavior—how our thoughts, relationships, and life experiences shape the way we see ourselves and the world. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Austin Peay State University and a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I’m licensed in North Carolina (LCMHC), Tennessee (LPC), Kentucky (LPCC-S), and Georgia (LPC). Throughout my career, I’ve learned that there is always more to a person’s story than what we first see. I bring that understanding to each session, listening with compassion, curiosity, and respect. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, burnout, or a life transition, you don’t have to sort through it alone. My approach is warm and supportive, with honest conversations and thoughtful challenges. I’ll meet you with understanding while encouraging accountability as you grow. Together, we’ll identify what’s within your control, strengthen emotional regulation, and build practical tools you can use outside of sessions to improve daily life and support lasting change.

I’m a licensed professional clinical counselor and counselor educator with more than a decade of experience in mental health, supervision, and counselor training. I work primarily with adults navigating stress, grief, identity, relationships, life transitions, burnout, and the effects of difficult past experiences. My approach is relational, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that counseling should make room for the complexity of real life. I tend to be warm, thoughtful, straightforward, and curious. I’m not the kind of therapist who simply sits back and nods—I ask questions, offer perspective, and work alongside you to better understand patterns, possibilities, and what might actually be helpful. My practice is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and affirming of LGBTQ+ and other diverse identities and experiences. I especially enjoy working with people who are thoughtful and self-aware but may feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure what comes next. You do not need to have everything figured out before coming to counseling. We can start with where you are.

Frequently asked questions

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Kentucky. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Kentucky from Bowling Green to Lexington! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Kentucky.

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
