Hello! My name is Kevin Blalock. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Kentucky. I have worked as a Referral Clinician for an inpatient psychiatric hospital, as an Inpatient Clinical Therapist, and now an Outpatient Clinical Therapist. I have a diverse background of working with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Trust-Based Relational Intervention. I am a certified Juvenile Sex Offender Therapist in the state of Kentucky, and am currently under supervision to become a Registered Play Therapist. I look forward to speaking with you about your goals for therapy and how I can help!
Our first session together will consist of a thorough assessment. I want to know as much as I can about you and your needs so that I can know best how to help you. The assessment will consist of biological, psychological, social, and spiritual information. Some of the questions may feel invasive, and you are free to leave questions unanswered if you so desire. At the end of the assessment, I will give you a tentative treatment plan and an explanation of how we will move forward.
I strive to be non-judgmental and empathetic when it comes to my interactions with you. I have worked with individuals from all walks of life, and while I make no promises, odds are good that I have worked with problems similar to yours. We're all broken people trying to hold it together. Sometimes we need help, and that's why I'm here. I don't have any magic buttons that make everything better, but I will walk with you through this time and provide insight and guidance to help you come out the other side. Hopefully when we come out the other side, you will be a heathier version of yourself.
The majority of my experience in therapy has been in working with children, adolescents, and families. I believe that the problems affecting kids today are increasingly destructive, and that by intervening early, we can affect the next generation of adults for the better. I also believe that a lot of the problems adults have stem for either recent or past trauma that needs to be healed. I can also offer my therapeutic resources from a Christian perspective if you so desire.
Your experiences in the past greatly shape who you are now. We will explore together. I have used TF-CBT with great success in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
As an inpatient therapist, I became very verse and comfortable with DBT. It is THE treatment method for individuals in crisis or maintaining a life outside of crisis. If you find yourself struggling with self-worth and self-harming ideations, DBT is right for you. I have practiced DBT-informed therapy at all levels of treatment.
I am a certified Juvenile Sex Offender therapist in the state of Kentucky. With that certification, I have learned a lot about healthy sexual relationships and what it takes to maintain strong connections. I am comfortable discussing your sexual relationships in a safe and confidential environment.
I am currently under supervision to become a Registered Play Therapist. While Play Therapy is challenging in a telehealth setting, there are a number of activities that can be done for children and adults alike who need to have a creative space to play out their past. I
I am an Elder at a local church of Christ in my area. I have served in the church as a Youth Minister, Pulpit Minister, Deacon, and now Elder. While I will never be happy with my knowledge of the scriptures, I can use the Holy Bible along with my therapeutic training to help you be the version of yourself that Christ desires.
