Hi! I'm a licensed professional counselor in the state of Virginia. I received my Masters degree from Johns Hopkins University and have been practicing for the past 6 years. I'm a trauma-informed counselor and practitioner of different trauma (clinical and psychospiritual) healing modalities. I help different populations including male and female youth (14-17 years old), emerging adults (18-29 years old), and early/middle adults (30-55). I have experience helping client reduces symptoms related to anxiety, depression, addictions, and mood disorders. I also provide counseling services related to identity confusion, low self-esteem, and attachment issues.
In our first session together, I will ask some follow up questions to form a better and more comprehensive understanding about your presenting concerns. You will be able to tell me more about why you are starting your therapeutic journey. Towards the end of the session I will share with you initial impressions I have about which therapeutic techniques I feel will best meet your needs.
My greatest strengths as a therapist include my down-to-earth personality, ability to hold emotional space for clients to express their authentic emotions/feelings, willingness to bring new ideas and treatment approaches into sessions, sincere non-judgmental approach, ability to gently encourage clients to step outside of their comfort zones to realize their growth potential.
I enjoy working with clients who want to make changes in their lives (emotionally, relationally, and behaviorally) but don't know how to start. I also take pleasure in helping those who want to learn new techniques to improve their mental health.
Throughout my clinical experience, the topic of attachment styles towards parents, family members, relationships is one that gets addressed and explored. Learning about your attachment styles will tell you more about your personality style and your emotional life.
Since the start of my clinical experience, CBT has been an important therapeutic approach that allows clients to start learning more about their thought structure. Clients begin to learn about the level of rationality behind thoughts, how to identify irrational thinking patterns, how to effectively reframe thoughts, and how to changing thinking patterns changes behaviors.
In 2020 I became a EMDR practitioner. This trauma processing approach happens in phases so that a client is able to be prepared and mentally equipped (including developing coping skills) to step into past traumatizing memories. I have seen how EMDR has reduced clients trauma responses and freed them up to start focusing on more positive aspects of their lives.
My first two and half years in the field of mental health was within a trauma-informed private practice that served clients who had experienced severe levels of trauma. I was well trained by a fully licensed mental health counselor who specialized in trauma-informed care. After those years of experienced I continue to uphold and abide by the trauma-informed principles of effective mental health care.
I started practicing this approach in 2020. This is my favorite therapeutic approach to introduce client to. IFS puts clients in the driver seat of their own inner emotional world. This evidence-based approach is capable of teaching client about their personality structure and brings emotional protectors to life in a unique way that heals inner wounds and leads clients towards personal enlightenment.
