Hi, I am Laura Jones, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Virginia. I support teens/young adults in navigating such a formative time of life in self development and self identity. I also support adults in navigating life transitions by learning to cope effectively with mental health symptoms related to trauma, anxiety, depression and general life stressors.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session we will go through introductions and begin getting to know one another. We will review your presenting concerns or symptoms that you are wanting support with and we can also begin identifying some potential goals that may support you in feeling better.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my strengths in providing support are related to my ability to meet people where they are, without judgement, and to genuinely work with them in identifying personal core strengths and beliefs to support them in improving. I am committed to supporting my clients in improving their self understanding in order to identify areas of self growth and to support them progressing towards specific goals. I also have a background in providing community based mental health services, which also gives me additional insight into resources that could be helpful to you as well.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love supporting individuals in finding direction during transitional or formative times of life. It can be difficult to find motivation at times, and I am here to support you in finding a path forward. I work from a strengths based perspective to support you in authentically examining ways to work towards healing and self improvement.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

CPT is evidence-based treatment approach designed to support reduction of symptoms related to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). CPT is time-limited (usually 12 to 15 sessions) but it does require a commitment to weekly one-hour sessions as well as homework.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is utilized within treating diagnoses related to anxiety and depression, in addition to others. Cognitive behavioral therapy involves understanding how our thoughts, feelings and behaviors are connected and how we can focus on changing unhelpful or unrealistic patterns of thinking to improve ourselves/circumstances.
