Hi there, I am Donna I love a mixture of different approaches to therapy to get to the root of what has been difficult or confusing at times during our journey in life. the ups and downs in our journey in relationships, job stress, and family interactions can be overwhelming and stressful, learning balance is part of what I believe is finding ourselves and identifying the needs versus the wants of life choices and understanding ourselves. I love the empowering of the self. Working together using a whole self approach addresses what I identify as balance - body, mind, and soul (content or peace) that helps develop a strong relationship with yourself. Seeking therapy can be a scary adventure, but well worth it. I am transparent, open, and honest with each person I come in contact with, I am here to help you on your journey with mindfulness, understanding, and evidence-based techniques.

Hello, I was born and raised in Stockton, California. I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and in 1997, after 25 yeas of service, I retired from the Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant. After retiring from the Marine Corps, I worked as a Farrier (Horseshoer), as well as a structural welder (Ironworker), as those were the most marketable skill that I had. I came to a point where old injuries came back to haunt me and I could no longer walk (several years later, thanks to a surgery through the VA, I can walk again; thankful for that). At this point, I changed professions and out of a desire to work with veterans, I returned to school, accomplishing all that was necessary to become a licensed counselor. I spent another career working for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically as a counselor in the Readjustment Counseling Service (Vet Center). I recently retired from the Vet Center and now I work part-time here with Grow Therapy. As a retired Marine senior staff Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) and disabled combat veteran myself, the Vet Center was the perfect job. Vet Centers provide readjustment counseling to combat veterans and provide counseling to survivors of military sexual trauma (MST). Vet Centers also provide group counseling, bereavement counseling and couples counseling when this is determined to be of support to the veteran. Readjustment counseling many times consists of treating/addressing symptoms related to post-traumatic stress (PTSD), I.e., anxiety, depression, exaggerated startle response, hypervigilance, sleep disturbance, etc. Many veterans go on to work as first responders and working with many first responders as well as medical personal, has provided me with a great deal of additional experience.

When we experience severe trauma or life stressors, our lives can start to collapse into a day-to-day struggle. Our normal coping mechanisms and our support systems can start to fail or no longer be enough to help pull us through the difficult time. The truth is, we cannot change our life experiences, but we can search to find solutions to help us overcome depression, addiction, anxiety, relationship difficulties. We can grow and become aware of our own strengths as we face our struggles. Sometimes we need that extra help to aid us in regaining life balance in our journey of self-discovery. Do you have an an issue or concern that you're currently going through and want to be able to feel heard and understood? As a licensed Clinical Social Worker I provide a safe and welcoming place where you can feel open to share those concerns or worries. Together we can work toward creating more balance in your life. I use a collaborative style to build on your strengths and resources and use them as the foundation of the helping process. I have 21 years experience working with children, families, and individuals as a social worker, eight of them as a licensed clinician! Prior to training as a therapist I worked as and advocate for children, youth and families in various community based non-profits. The peace I felt in helping alleviate burdens for individuals and families was the energetic drive that led me to the path of clinical social work! I consider it a privilege to be invited and entrusted with the task of walking alongside you during a challenging moment in your life. Seeing you grow and succeed is one of the greatest reward I could ask for!

Reaching out for help takes courage, and you are taking a step towards healing. Although this decision is brave, it can also be overwhelming. Life is full of situations that can leave you with sadness, anxiety, depression, or simply feeling lost and hopeless. Struggling with mental health can feel lonely and isolating. Working together with a therapist CAN change that. I find it meaningful to help clients better understand their inherent value and self-worth. In this way, while building a mutual understanding, we can find the best pace for you to take steps that can lead to growth. I am here to support you, to hear you, and to help you. I believe in a client-centered approach, meaning you are the expert on your life and I am here to help you.
