(she/her)
Hello! My name is Mackenzie Maurer and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I've been working as a clinical therapist since 2017. I graduated with my MSW from Cal State University, Los Angeles and became licensed in 2021. I became a social worker because it aligned well with my belief in social justice and working as a therapist has only strengthened this belief. I am lucky to really love what I do and I feel honored to get to witness my clients' growth in the therapeutic process.
In our first session, I like to get an idea of what brought you to therapy and what your goals are. I'll share a bit about me and we'll review our expectations of one another. Overall, it will be an opportunity for me to learn about you - as much as you are comfortable sharing in a first session - and give us a good idea of where we can get started moving forward.
I really believe in the work of healing and I think this is a strength I bring to therapy. I value that each person is the expert of their own life and I believe my job is to support you, reflect both growth and possible blind spots, and to walk with you through the good moments and some of the tougher parts of the therapeutic process. I am open-minded, empathetic, and work to build a strong relationship with my clients that allows me to offer challenges to you when needed, always from a place of care.
I really believe therapy is your time and space to address what you want to work on. My experience has been with adult clients recovering from substance use disorders and dealing with anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationship problems and overall life stressors. I've worked with clients from different backgrounds, religions, and walks of life and I am LGBTQ+ affirming. I also strongly believe that the therapeutic relationship between a therapist and a client are an important part of creating a safe space where growth and healing can happen.
