It can seem difficult to believe we can overcome our challenges. We can feel like an instance, situation or moment defines us. It is possible to break free from this thinking. For several years I have been working with clients to address self-esteem, depression, anxiety, addictions, relationships, job problems and loss. It is rewarding for me to provide hope that distress in these areas can be alleviated. My passion is assisting clients to reach their goals. In my practice I have noticed EMDR reduce symptoms. EMDR is not only used for trauma, it can be used for dysfunctionally stored information. When using EMDR (tapping) I find change occurs rapidly and my clients are hopeful about moving forward. Clients are able to effectively manage symptoms and make decisions that benefit themselves and those they love. Through my study of neuroscience, I’ve learned the nervous system can help heal clients. Considering the mind, brain, and body are all connected and influence one another, powerful change can occur during the therapeutic process. The brain is developed in a way with the potential for change in various ways. I use interventions associated with the ability to change the brain, such that can alter brain pathways and networks to help treat trauma, anxiety, depression, and addiction. These skills will promote healthy recovery in the brains for those experiencing trauma, anxiety, addiction, and depression. Each session is an opportunity to change and grow. It is unfortunate that we experience difficulties which weigh down our ability to advance in life. It is my desire to work with my clients so they can move past their obstacles. Having personally experienced road blocks of my own, I am empathetic to the struggle of moving past adversity. Let's work together at achieving your goals.

My approach is rooted in Health at Every Size (HAES) and LGBTQ+ affirming care, with a deep belief that therapy should feel both supportive and empowering. I’m here to help you not just get through the hard weeks, but to feel seen, heard, and equipped with tools to move through life with more ease. I'm a licensed therapist specializing in anxiety, depression, ADHD, and life transitions. My approach focuses on developing awareness of how our thoughts, emotions and behaviors are connected, fostering resilience, and empowering clients to work through their challenges. I enjoy creating a non-judgmental and affirming space for adults with short-term or long-standing mental health and emotional distress. Feelings of anxiety and the need for isolation can be internal cues to request reconnection to what makes our lives meaningful. Ideally, enjoying the moment, knowing how to soothe overwhelming feelings, and engaging our sparkling personalities helps us feel alive. My clients enjoy my approach of exploring practical strategies by using guiding questions. Exploring thoughts and emotional pain benefits from curiosity and compassion. I’m Steven Frank. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), licensed in California and living in Seattle, Washington. The way the law works is that if I have a California license, I can live outside of California, but can only work with California residents. For that reason, all my work is perforyemed online through telehealth. I see primarily adults and seniors in my practice and while I work mostly withindividuals, I will also see couples when needed. I’ve been licensed since 1983 but actually began to “grow” a private practice beginning in 1990. While most of my experience has been with clients dealing with depression and anxiety, over the last 4-5 years I’ve been more focused on the treatment for symptoms of trauma and abuse. I’ve been trained in EMDR (a specific treatment for trauma), and will use that method as needed, when appropriate, and with your understanding of the process, and consent. By the way, my first job experience (before beginning my schooling for the MFT license), was in the California State Hospital system as a psychiatric technician. I was a member of a hospital inpatient treatment team that treated people with severe mental disorders. This was excellent training for working with clients who are seeking help, but on an outpatient basis.

Parenting can be tough. You wonder if your child will ever grow out of their excessive worries, meltdowns, or tantrums, and you become exhausted and feel guilty for being frustrated with them. The nightly battles with homework and reports from school are wearing you down. The power struggle with your spirited toddler or your strong-willed adolescent may leave you overwhelmed and wondering what you can do differently. Communicating and feeling unified with your partner or caregiver may be difficult or your styles may be different, creating a state of uncertainty or chaos in the home. It is okay to feel overwhelmed. It is also okay to strive for more. You know the potential your child has, and living in a world where you can better help them navigate their development is possible. My goal is to empower you and your child by finding effective parenting strategies and coping skills that work for your family, allowing your child to thrive. I work with children, families, parents, and caregivers to ease the tension that emotions, outbursts, tantrums, and anxiety can bring children and their families. Parents are welcome for parent support as well as for individual therapy to improve their emotional response when triggered by parenting issues. Children are welcome between the ages of 2 and 7 years for Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Let's begin working towards a more peaceful and intentional parenting experience. I welcome all families from all walks of life.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in California. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
