Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

For the first session I am often providing some information about the therapy process, but I also ask a lot of questions so that I can start to formulate some goals that we will work on together. Sometimes if there is time I do what is called a Genogram in the first session which is sort of like a social family tree. This is one of the ways I learn about each client's support network and family history. My goal by the end of the first session is for the client to feel excited about the work we will do together.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I am very good at staying grounded and finding a supportive approach to your specific needs. I am very good at navigating symptoms of trauma because I have studied therapies for trauma more than any other methods. I think you will be able to notice that I am not only well versed in therapy models, but I also am good at creating a safe environment for others to share vulnerable information.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am an ideal therapist for clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, and other symptoms that may stem from childhood trauma. Many clients who I work with identify with some form of trauma history and are interested in relating to that trauma in a new way through therapy. I enjoy working with individuals from all different backgrounds. My practice is grounded in respect, inclusion, and care for the whole person. I strive to create a space where all identities and life experiences are acknowledged and honored, especially those shaped by marginalization or limited access to support.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I have used EMDR for many years to treat symptoms of trauma symptoms. I use this method often when the client has a clear visual memory of their trauma memory and the memory impacts their present day functioning. For other forms of trauma that are more relational I have other methods that I also integrate such as Parts Work.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have used CBT for many years as an integrated part of therapy. CBT can be very useful when it comes to understanding symptoms and how our own thoughts can reinforce symptoms. The CBT framework can also be really helpful to create positive change through self talk.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

While I am not formally trained in IFS, I often utilize Parts language to talk about competing internal dialogue that clients may struggle with. Allowing space for all parts and learning what they need can be a very powerful way to shift how we see symptoms and ourselves.
