Hello, my name is Alison Panton. I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) licensed in Washington, DC. I have worked in mental health since 2000 and my experience has been working with the seriously mentally ill, unhoused individuals, individuals who have co occurring disorders. The last 10 years, I have worked with mostly adults or provided supervision to case managers, community support workers and other staff such as master's level college graduates seeking supervision hours for their license.
During the first session, paper work and assessments will be reviewed, an intake will be completed or started so that therapy goals can be established for upcoming sessions.
I believe my greatest strength as a provider is my cultural sensitivity and my desire to help the client help themselves.
CBT is used to address how a client can change their thinking and outlook. This is used in my practice for over 20 years. I also provide client centered, trauma informed counseling.
All counseling is client centered or humanistic. Client focused and client forward counseling provided.
This is used in my practice to challenge the ambivalence a client may have regarding change. This has been in my practice for over 15 years.
Able to provide grief counseling and teach the stages of grief and or complicated grief that may occur.
Able to explore with the client their spirituality and how to utilize religion to manage life stressors.
