About me

Marija (pronounced Mar - ee - yah) Rizoska is a dedicated psychotherapist with more than a decade of experience across diverse mental health settings. Fluent in six languages - Macedonian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Bosnian, and English - she brings a rare ability to deliver culturally responsive and linguistically accessible therapy to clients from a wide range of backgrounds. This multilingual capacity not only enhances communication but also deepens the therapeutic alliance, allowing clients to feel understood and supported in ways that honor their cultural identity and personal experiences. Marija specializes in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, and depressive disorders, with a clinical approach that integrates evidence - based practices within an eclectic framework. She strongly believes that therapy is not a one - size - fits - all process, and she tailors her interventions to the unique needs, strengths, and goals of each individual. Known for her direct yet compassionate style, she fosters an environment of safety, empathy, and respect, empowering clients to confront challenges, rediscover resilience, and cultivate meaningful change. Her extensive professional background includes work in community mental health, private practice, and collaborative care models, where she has developed expertise in addressing complex and layered presentations. Marija is particularly committed to helping individuals who carry the invisible weight of trauma, offering a therapeutic space where burdens can be set down and healing can begin. Beyond her clinical work, Marija remains passionate about advancing culturally competent care within the field of psychotherapy. Her dedication to bridging differences and connecting authentically with others underscores her reputation as both a skilled clinician and an advocate for mental wellness. Through her work, she strives to make a lasting impact on the lives of those she serves by supporting growth, healing, and recovery.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

First sessions are usually the easiest - we get to know each other, you tell me what has been going on and we set a plan on how to move forward. This is also the moment where you can ask me ANY questions you might have related to the process of psychotherapy. Sometimes getting a picture of how things work can ease the mind.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Almost a decade ago, tight after grad school, I dove in working with the most severe mental health cases in an inpatient setting. From there, through out the years I've also worked as a psychotherapist for executive professionals, and have also worked as a psychotherapists supervisor. One word that would describe me is Ubuntu - "I am what I am because of who we all are".

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

As human beings, we each carry our own burdens - some may feel like a small hill, while others resemble the weight of Everest. Regardless of the size, our sessions are intended to be a space where you can set that weight down, even briefly, to rest and restore. My approach is eclectic, rooted in the understanding that one size does not fit all, and is guided by directness paired with genuine empathy. If this resonates with what you are seeking, I would be glad to connect with you.
