I’m a therapist who works with individuals experiencing serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI), anxiety, depression, and substance use challenges. I believe people are more than their diagnoses, and my approach focuses on helping clients build insight, resilience, and practical skills to improve daily functioning and quality of life. My goal is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel understood, empowered, and capable of meaningful change.
As an individual who struggled with alcohol addiction, depression, and anxiety, my life experiences, as well as my education and faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of my life, have provided me with the opportunity to serve those who are struggling with life. Everyone has life struggles. I am prepared to help individuals and couples learn how to live life amidst struggles, such as depression, addiction, worry, financial stress, or marriage difficulties. I am blessed and honored to be in a position to use the gifts God has entrusted me with to serve others.
My specialty area is addictions. I struggled with alcohol addiction for about 23 years. Through God's redeeming grace and an excellent education, I am well equipped to help those struggling with addiction and the anxiety, depression, worry, and fear that may or may not be attached to the addiction.
My life experience with addiction has equipped me with an understanding about addiction. Not just for the individual, but for the affected family/social network as well. My education at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary has also equipped me with God's ultimate resource for our afflictions - The Word of God.

My name is Jeffrey, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan, and a Licensed Social Worker and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Ohio. I have also been an ordained Lutheran pastor since 1989. My professional career began as an Associate Pastor in a Lutheran church in northwest Ohio, where I focused on youth ministry, Christian Education, and pastoral counseling. I entered Social Work in 1995 when I began work as a Family Worker in a residential facility for hard to place juvenile offenders, and then worked in a few outpatient counseling agencies providing mental health and substance use disorder services. I have experience working with people of all ages on general mental health issues, such as managing depression and anxiety, and have specialized in the areas of PTSD recovery and domestic violence and sexual abuse victims and offenders. Throughout my counseling career, I have maintained activity in ministry. I was trained in Clinical Pastoral Counseling and also have had training as a Spiritual Director.
My counseling approach is generally non-directive, using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing in a Solution Focused, Client Centered frame work. I can incorporate spirituality as much or as little as the client desires, from not referencing spirituality at all to fully engaging the spiritual dimension of life. As a caring, empathetic listener, people find it easy to talk with me and be open about what needs attention in their lives.
I look forward to working with you!

Whether you're struggling with past experiences, current stressors, or seeking personal development, I'm dedicated to walking alongside you with empathy and professional guidance. Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply not like yourself lately? Maybe it feels like you’re just getting through each day instead of truly living it. If so, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to navigate it by yourself. I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling and am a Licensed Professional Counselor, working with both adolescents and adults. I understand that every person’s story is unique, which is why I tailor my approach to meet you exactly where you are—with no judgment, only support.
I’m a licensed counselor who believes healing and growth happen when people feel safe enough to listen to themselves. You are the expert on your own life, intuition, and timing, and my role is to create a steady, respectful space where your nervous system can settle and your own wisdom can come forward. My approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and empowering—I guide clients in reconnecting with their intuition, building confidence, and trusting themselves to move forward. Because of this philosophy, most of my work is intentionally short-term (typically 4–8 sessions), focused on supporting self-trust and clarity. Many clients leave sessions feeling grounded, capable, and ready to take intentional steps in their lives. Outside of counseling, I enjoy spending time in nature, exploring art, books and spirituality in ways that feel meaningful to me. I love sharing life with my partner and animal companions, who remind me every day about presence, curiosity, and joy.
